Express Employment Professionals in Spartanburg is partnering with a well-established company in the Spartanburg area that is seeking a Machine Shop Manager. This is a direct hire, salaried position.


The Machine Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing all daily operations within the machine shop to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality production of precision components. This role includes leadership of personnel, optimization of machining processes, and ensuring compliance with all quality and safety standards. The manager leads a team of operatives and engineers, driving productivity, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Direct and coordinate day-to-day machine shop activities to meet production targets and quality standards.

• Supervise and develop a team of approximately 28 operatives and 3 engineers, fostering a culture of accountability and high performance.

• Maximize machine utilization and performance across multi-axis CNC milling, turning, and grinding through proactive maintenance and process optimization.

• Oversee machine setup, tooling efficiency, and workflow to minimize downtime and ensure precision.

• Implement and drive continuous improvement initiatives, including on-machine probing and CAD/CAM integration.

• Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve technical challenges and align production priorities.

• Ensure effective stock control and procurement to support uninterrupted manufacturing flow.

• Analyze production data and provide actionable insights for cost reduction and process enhancement.

• Maintain compliance with ISO 9001 standards, safety protocols, and customer specifications.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Management, or equivalent experience.

• Demonstrated leadership experience in a precision manufacturing or machine shop environment.

• In-depth knowledge of multi-axis CNC machining (milling, turning, grinding) and associated tooling.

• Proficiency with ERP systems, manufacturing software, and CAD/CAM tools.

• Strong planning, scheduling, and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

Work Schedule:
Full-time, Monday to Friday. Additional hours may be required depending on business needs. This is an on-site role in Spartanburg, SC (must be able to commute or relocate prior to start).
