Job Description The Mathematics Program at Champlain College invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor to join us for the Fall 2026 semester to teach one or more of our general education math courses. We seek dedicated educators with expertise in mathematics, statistics, or a related field to join our vibrant academic community committed to student-centered learning and interdisciplinary collaboration. A successful candidate will deliver engaging instruction in mathematics, fostering critical thinking and quantitative literacy among our diverse student body. Primary Responsibilities Deliver engaging instruction in mathematics courses Provide timely and constructive feedback on student assignments and assessments Maintain current knowledge of developments in pedagogical approaches Collaborate with program faculty to ensure curriculum coherence and quality Participate in program meetings and activities as needed Course Descriptions MTH-115 Mathematics for Problem-Solving and Decision-Making Utilizing an application-oriented approach, students will learn and practice mathematical thinking through discussing, exploring, and resolving current topics. Students will explore how mathematical skills-including personal finance and introductory probability and statistics-can be utilized to better understand and engage with issues that impact them and the world around them. By applying quantitative reasoning to community challenges across various contexts, students will integrate mathematical methods with interdisciplinary perspectives, developing the analytical skills and social responsibility necessary for contributing effectively to their communities. MTH-125 Precalculus Students gain experience with algebra, trigonometry, functions, and curve-sketching in the Cartesian plane as preparation to take a course in Calculus. After a brief algebra review, students will explore precalculus topics that include polynomial, rational, inverse, exponential, and logarithmic functions, and an introduction to trigonometry and trigonometric functions. Students apply properties of these functions to interpret and address real-world situations. MTH-180 Introduction to Statistics Students will develop a statistical toolkit for navigating an uncertain world. From summarizing data and understanding probability to testing hypotheses and modeling relationships between variables, students will gain practical skills for making evidence-based decisions. Through applying statistical methods to real community issues and challenges at various scales, students will learn to integrate quantitative reasoning with broader interdisciplinary perspectives, building the analytical and social awareness necessary for responsible engagement with complex problems in their personal, professional, and civic communities. MTH-230 Calculus I Students learn the common applications of differential calculus. Students investigate basic topics of differential and integral calculus with a specific emphasis on applications in real-world contexts, interpreting mathematical results within broader contexts. Students perform differentiation and integration of algebraic and transcendental functions, apply optimization techniques, and learn to formulate and solve differential equations. Qualifications Master's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field. PhD preferred. Demonstrated knowledge in neuroscience and related areas Experience teaching college-level courses preferred Experience with learning management systems desirable Strong communication and interpersonal skills Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment Ability to commute to Burlington, VT campus for all scheduled class sessions Work Arrangement This is a contract position with responsibilities based on course assignment for the Fall 2026 semester. Faculty are expected to: Be on campus for all scheduled class sessions (3 hours per week), with specific days and times to be determined Maintain regular availability for student consultation during the semester Participate in occasional department events or meetings as needed Compensation Compensation for this position is determined by: Credit hours taught per semester Current collective bargaining agreement rates for adjunct faculty Detailed compensation information will be provided to qualified candidates during the interview process.
