Cook | The Pavilion at Williamsburg Place | Williamsburg, Virginia About the Job Purpose Statement: The Cook implements menus and coordinates food preparation and serves meals. Roles and Responsibilities Plan and prepare foods in accordance with facility policies, approved dietary guidelines and recipes/menus provided by supervisor or Dietician. Plan individual cooking schedules so that all foods for regular, therapeutic menus and special functions are properly cooked and ready at the appropriate time. Follow recipes and portioning procedures to prepare meats, entrées, gravies, casseroles, vegetables, soups, salads and desserts for the daily menu. Store and prepare food safely, maintaining accurate temperature logs, correct hot/cold storage, prompt freezer/refrigeration, stock rotation, labeling/dating food items and discarding out‑of‑date food. Set up steam tables attractively and in standardized portions, labeling food according to modifications. Prepare leftover food for proper storage, labeling with description and date, and assist with cleaning of steam tables and pans. Direct activities of staff who assist in preparing and serving meals. Take recommended measures to preserve nutritional benefits of food. Monitor the serving line and may serve food during periods to ensure timely replenishment. Record equipment and food temperatures and meal counts daily. Keep the cooking area clean and orderly, and transport trash to the dumpster. Clean and inspect equipment, kitchen appliances and work areas to ensure cleanliness and functional operation. Take inventory of supplies and equipment. Check and inspect food products and supplies as delivered. Assist in the storage of supplies and food products. Apply culinary and cooking techniques for special or restrictive dietary requirements. Education / Experience / Skill Requirements High school graduate or equivalent required. Two or more years’ experience in a food service role preparing food for institutions such as schools, hospitals or cafeterias preferred. Licenses, Designations, and Certifications Serv Safe Certification or similar food safety certification, where required by the state or facility. Work Location This position is onsite at the facility and is not a remote position. Supervisory Requirements This position is an Individual Contributor.
