Biology Teacher

Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Biology Teacher to join the Compass Program. The Compass Program serves students who benefit from a highly structured, supportive, and therapeutic educational environment designed to meet academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong instructional practices, the ability to build positive relationships with students, and a commitment to differentiated instruction. Responsibilities Deliver standards-based Biology instruction aligned with NYS Next Generation Learning Standards. Prepare students for the NYS Regents examination, including laboratory and fieldwork requirements. Develop and implement differentiated lesson plans to meet diverse learning needs. Maintain accurate and timely student records, including progress monitoring and assessment data. Collaborate with special education staff, teaching assistants, counselors, and related service providers. Implement classroom management strategies that promote positive student behavior and engagement. Utilize data-driven instruction and technology to enhance student learning. Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress. Qualifications Valid NYS Certification required, or must be eligible for certification shortly. Experience working with students in alternative education settings preferred. Knowledge of curriculum, laboratory requirements, and assessment practices. Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills. Experience with differentiated instruction and culturally responsive teaching practices preferred. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
