Incumbent must be located within the Arvest four state operational footprint. (OK,AR,KS,MO)
Position is Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm with additional hours as needed.
Job Summary
The Mortgage Underwriter 3 is a senior role responsible for evaluating and verifying loan file data to ensure compliance with secondary market regulations, agency guidelines, and Arvest Bank Loan Policy. This role involves analyzing customer credit, financial statements, and property security to determine acceptability. The underwriter issues the final credit and property decisions for secondary-market loans.
Responsibilities
Analyze risk and underwrite all residential mortgage loan files, including those that fall outside the standard automated underwriting system (AUS).
Evaluate the entire credit package and collateral to ensure an investment-quality product and borrower creditworthiness.
Issue loan conditions and required documentation to meet secondary market, Arvest Bank Loan Policy, agency and regulatory requirements.
Ensure full compliance with all real estate regulatory requirements from loan origination through closing.
Maintain expert knowledge of all current Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, RD, HUD 184, agency, insurer, and regulatory underwriting guidelines through ongoing training.
Review and underwrite adverse action files and prepare them for second review by the Adverse Action team.
Assist loan production and processing staff with complex loan scenarios and guideline requirements.
Address post-closing issues with Lender Insuring, government entities, and Quality Control (QC) reviews.
Understand and comply with bank policies, laws, regulations, and the bank's BSA/AML Program, as applicable to job duties. This includes, but is not limited to, completing compliance training, adhering to internal procedures and controls, reporting any known violations of compliance policies, laws, or regulations, and reporting any suspicious customer and/or account activity.
Other duties and special projects may be assigned.
Experience
Required: 4 years of underwriting single-family 1–4-unit residential property appraisals for secondary market loans.
Required: 4 years of analyzing personal and business tax returns to calculate income for self-employed borrowers for secondary market loans.
Required: Working knowledge of all real estate regulatory laws, including, but not limited to: RESPA, TRID, Truth in Lending Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair Lending, Reg B (ECOA), Reg C (HMDA), Flood Act and Interagency Appraisal and Evaluation Guidelines.
Preferred: Knowledge of appraisal-related software.
Relevant work experience may be substituted for the Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree requirement.
Relevant military experience is considered for veterans and transitioning service members.
Credentials
Required: FHA Direct Endorsement (DE) approval.
Required: VA-approved Staff Appraisal Reviewer (SAR) under the VA Lender Appraisal Processing Program (LAPP) or HUD 184 designation.
Education
Required: Associate's degree

It may occasionally require the individual to physically move, remain in a stationary position, and position themselves to reach for objects.
Must be able to operate standard office equipment and use office applications for communication, information and document transmission, and content, document, and report creation.
Regular and frequent navigation of construction sites and all facility areas is required, including but not limited to below-grade spaces, rooftops, penthouses, unfinished areas, and crawl spaces. Access to these areas may necessitate the use of a ladder or lift.
The essential duties of this job occasionally require the associate to lift and/or move up to.
Must be able to operate a passenger vehicle and possess a current, valid driver's license.
Ability to travel overnight, unaccompanied, within the United States via automobile and air is required, on occasion.
The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate.
