This is a temporary internship expected to work approximately 20-30 hours per week, with the potential to work up to 40 hours when business needs require. It is not intended to be a permanent full-time position. The assignment supports business continuity while the LR team develops the equipment, tools, and resources needed to operate more independently and efficiently.

The Engineering Intern provides day-to-day engineering and design support to maintain an efficient workflow between the LR and MX teams. The role prepares scan data and technical materials, supports design revisions, verifies dimensions and print completeness, and helps ensure designers and the MX team receive the drawings, parts, measurements, and information needed to continue work without unnecessary delay.

JOB SUMMARY:

- Maintain organized records and communicate open questions, missing information, and workflow risks to the appropriate engineering contact.

- Provide timely technical support and clarification to LR designers so design work can resume promptly when questions arise.

- Coordinate drawings, parts, measurements, and supporting information for the MX team to help prevent avoidable delays.

- Conduct an initial completeness review of prints to confirm required information and documentation are included before handoff.

- Prepare covers, parts, and related materials for shipment to MX or St. Louis.

- Support design alterations and revisions in coordination with the MX team.

- Perform Mylar checks and verify dimensions against applicable prints and requirements.

- Prepare 3D prints and related materials for engineering review and use.

- Create PIP documentation and cross-sections to support product evaluation and design work.

- Scan parts and prepare complete, usable scan data for engineering and design activities.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer-Aided Design, or a related technical field.

EDUCATION:

- Coursework or practical exposure to engineering drawings, dimensional measurement, CAD models, or technical documentation is preferred.

- Prior internship, academic project, laboratory, manufacturing, automotive, CAD, 3D scanning, or 3D printing experience is preferred but not required.

EXPERIENCE:

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with engineering data or document-management systems is preferred.

- Willingness to learn, follow established engineering and safety procedures, and take initiative on assigned work.

- Ability to organize multiple priorities, respond promptly to technical questions, and escalate blockers appropriately.

- Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across LR and MX teams.

- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify incomplete or inconsistent technical information.

- Basic familiarity with CAD, 3D scanning, 3D printing, dimensional inspection, or related engineering tools.

- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, and technical requirements with guidance.

REQUIREMENTS/CERTIFICATIONS:

Ability to perform computer-based design and documentation work and to handle parts, prints, Mylar materials, and 3D-printed components. Any lifting, standing, walking, personal protective equipment, or other site-specific physical requirements must be confirmed by the hiring manager and HR. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Engineering, design, laboratory, and/or office environment with regular collaboration across LR and MX teams. The role may involve use of scanning, printing, and dimensional-measurement equipment and preparation of materials for shipment. Work location, onsite expectations, schedule, safety requirements, and travel expectations must be confirmed by the hiring manager and HR.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Additional duties, responsibilities, and activities may be required. This temporary internship is intended to support day-to-day engineering workflow during the LR team's equipment and resource transition and is not intended to become a permanent full-time position.
