Environmental Coordinator

The Environmental Coordinator will be responsible for supporting environmental compliance, sustainability initiatives, permitting requirements, and environmental risk management throughout all phases of construction. The successful candidate will work closely with project management, construction teams, environmental consultants, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to ensure environmental commitments are effectively implemented and maintained.

How will you contribute to the team? 

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following: 

• Monitor and support compliance with environmental permits, approvals, environmental management plans, and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct regular site inspections and environmental audits to ensure adherence to project environmental commitments.
• Coordinate environmental protection measures related to erosion and sediment control, water quality, dust control, noise and vibration monitoring, waste management, and spill prevention.
• Support environmental incident reporting, investigations, corrective actions, and lessons learned initiatives.
• Maintain environmental documentation, records, permits, inspection reports, and monitoring data.
• Coordinate environmental monitoring programs and review consultant reports and recommendations.
• Assist with obtaining permits, approvals, and regulatory submissions required for project activities.
• Liaise with environmental consultants, utility agencies, municipalities, conservation authorities, Metrolinx, and regulatory bodies as required.
• Support the implementation of sustainability and environmental stewardship initiatives.
• Deliver environmental awareness training and guidance to project staff, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Participate in project planning meetings to identify environmental risks and develop mitigation strategies.
• Assist in the development and continuous improvement of environmental management systems and procedures.

Education and Experience: 

• Diploma or Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Studies, Biology, Geography, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 3-5 years of environmental coordination experience within construction, infrastructure, civil works, transportation, transit, or heavy industrial projects.
• Strong knowledge of Ontario environmental legislation, regulations, and industry standards.
• Experience working on large-scale infrastructure, transportation, rail, transit, highway, or municipal projects is considered a strong asset.
• Familiarity with environmental permits, erosion and sediment control practices, water management, and environmental monitoring programs.
• Experience coordinating environmental requirements with subcontractors and field operations teams.
• Strong report writing, organizational, and communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Valid Ontario driver's license and ability to travel to project sites throughout the Niagara/Hamilton region.

Salary Range: 
Between $80,000 - $95,000, depending on experience
