MSC Seller

Location: Berlin, CT

POSITION SUMMARY

The MSC Seller is responsible for supporting sales growth through relationship‑building, account development, and hands‑on learning across the sales organization. The role starts without an assigned territory or portfolio; the seller shadows experienced sellers and supports accounts not in an active sales deck. After territory assignment, the individual transitions to a fully aligned role with ownership of account management and revenue growth.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Build and strengthen relationships with customers at both functional and executive levels. Develop and execute strategies to deepen account penetration, expand revenue opportunities, and achieve sales and retention targets. Serve as a trusted advisor by delivering tailored, value‑driven solutions. Lead implementation of major company programs and initiatives within assigned accounts. Process orders, verify shipments, maintain inventory, and manage returns. Leverage CRM and account management systems to track sales activity, analyze trends, and ensure accurate forecasting. Partner with internal teams to deliver operational excellence and exceed customer expectations. Drive the setup and optimization of vending and VMI services at new or existing locations. Collaborate with sales management to design competitive pricing strategies for non‑contract customers. Monitor market trends, competitors, and emerging technologies to provide forward‑looking solutions. Prepare and submit accurate sales reports in alignment with management expectations. Secure and submit customer orders using ordering technology. Contribute to a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability. Participate in cross‑functional projects and initiatives. Promote and embody MSC culture and values. Perform additional duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED required; 2–4 year college degree preferred. 2–3 years of outside direct sales/service experience preferred but not required. Flexibility to relocate to an assigned sales territory as business needs dictate. Industry experience in fasteners, chemicals, industrial maintenance supplies, electrical, food processing, or manufacturing preferred. Strong technical aptitude and ability to read technical materials. Proven problem‑solving, action‑plan development, and results‑driving skills. Excellent communication, presentation, listening, and relationship‑building skills. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, and PC‑based order systems. Strong organizational, time‑management, and basic math skills. High integrity and ability to build long‑term customer relationships. Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and insurance as required by state law. Ability to work from a home office with personal computer and internet access.

Experience in the industrial or manufacturing segment.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Valid driver’s license required. High flexibility for relocation; assignments determined by business needs. Ability to drive up to several hours per day to customer locations. Visits to customer sites required; sites vary in environment and accessibility. Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform tasks requiring walking, bending, standing. Compliance with customer safety and PPE protocols. Possible access to ITAR and/or CUI information.

COMPENSATION

Starting salary $85,500, depending on location and experience. Applications are only accepted from candidates currently authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
