Charge Registered Nurse (RN) II OR Services-AOD

Job Overview Full‑time position Monday‑Friday during daytime hours. Role as Charge Nurse at Houston Methodist requires a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) who is at the Competent‑to‑Proficient stage of Benner’s model. The Charge Nurse creates a safe patient‑care environment, serves as a coach and role model for department personnel, and assists in developing their skills and knowledge. Employment Status FLSA Status: Non‑exempt Responsibilities Lead unit and shared governance activities; assess unit needs and serve as a clinical resource for both unit and hospital staff. Co‑coordinate unit and hospital‑wide education in partnership with management. Model compassionate communication with physicians and the inter‑professional health‑care team; assume leadership at the bedside, unit, service line, and across the institution. Mentor and coach staff in clinical and professional practice, facilitate staff engagement, and manage stress and conflict. Drive patient‑ and family‑centered care standards; mentor others about specialty populations and audit care plans. Participate in continuous quality improvement, promote situational awareness, conduct audits, and use teachable moments to enhance safety. Coordinate nursing care throughout shifts, ensuring timely documentation and smooth patient flow. Support financial targets by documenting care, reducing length of stay, and optimizing efficiency. Identify and implement innovative practice changes, lead unit projects, and incorporate evidence‑based practices. Manage resource utilization, staffing, supplies, and unit capital needs. Qualifications Education: Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s). Experience: 24 months clinical nursing experience with progressive leadership skills. Licenses & Certifications: Required – RN, Texas state licensure, Texas Board of Nursing PSV Compact (must obtain permanent Texas license within 60 days if establishing residency). Preferred – BLS or BLS‑Instructor (AHA), Magnet‑Recognized Certification. Skills & Abilities: Proficient in English; strong communication, assessment, organization, problem‑solving, time‑management, critical thinking, clinical judgment, EMR proficiency, and knowledge of unit dashboards & HCAHPS scores. Additional Requirements Work Attire: Uniform and scrubs required; business professional or other department‑approved attire not required. On‑Call: Employees may be required to be on‑call during emergencies (e.g., disaster, severe weather). Travel: May require travel within Houston Metropolitan area. No travel outside Houston Metropolitan area.
