Electrician

Reports To: Coordinator of Maintenance

Purpose of the position: Identify electrical needs for all buildings and grounds located within the school system

Essential Job Functions:

• Maintain a safe and secure environment in order to support student learning
• Work cooperatively with supervision, principals, head custodians, and maintenance employees
• Exhibit department professionalism, employee motivation, and teamwork
• Correctly identify service needs as to electrical system size, voltage, phases, etc...
• Install, repair, and perform electrical upgrades at existing facilities and for portable classrooms
• Upgrade and renovate electrical services according to blueprints, schematics, and diagrams
• Prepare and install underground wire
• Attend job-related training classes and workshops
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Maintenance

• Adhere to the Code of Ethics for Educators in Georgia
• Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance/timeliness
• Complete assignments and requirements on time and in compliance with directions
• Maintain accurate, complete, and appropriate records and file reports promptly

Job Standards (Minimum qualifications needed to perform essential job functions):

• A minimum of four years in-field experience or technical degree in electrical repair and construction plus two years in-field experience
• Familiar with the National Electrical Code and Southern Building Codes
• Independent work ethic
• Possess a valid driver's license
• Climb extension ladder carrying a maximum of 50 pounds
• Alternatives to the above as the board may find appropriate and acceptable

Job Location (Place(s) where work is performed): All facilities in school system

Equipment (Machines, devices, tools, etc..., used in job performance): Basic hand tools; power tools; phase, light and multi-meters; and electrical personnel lift

Critical Skills/Expertise (Needed for this job specifically):

• Ability to read electrical schematic, blueprints, diagrams and electrical manuals for specific electrical jobs
• Ability to use proper meters to complete task correctly
• Working conditions for maintenance employees:
• Must be able to climb, bend, stoop and reach
• Must be able to walk and stand for long periods
• Must be able to work in confined spaces periodically
• Must be able to push, pull, or lift at least 50 pounds
• Must be able to read various forms of written documents and must be able to recognize different signs and symbols related to general maintenance

Non-Essential Functions (Marginal tasks performed by incumbent of this position):

• Maintain and care for a well-organized and clean vehicle
• Maintain and care for tools and equipment
• Calculate job cost and make material work list
• Maintain warehouse area and basic inventory of electrical supplies
• Operate computer work order system
