Job Title: Registered Nurse - ICU Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: ICU (Intensive Care Unit) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 3 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS BLS Must-Have: Critical Care experience RNs are required to titrate drips Common titratable and/or set rate drips include Levophed, Amiodarone, Heparin, Precedex, Propofol, Cardene, Nitro, Neosynephrine, and Dopamine Description: The unit has 24 beds in the ICU and 26 in the PCU. The nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 2:1 (occasionally 3:1 depending on acuity) in the ICU and 4:1 in the PCU. Nurses will be floated between two critical care and stepdown units. There will be an Intensivist in-house during the day and hospitalists available throughout all hours. Respiratory therapy will be available in the ICU 24/7. Bedside monitors and a monitoring bank will be accessible at the charge desk with monitor techs on-site. There will be no nurse aids typically in the ICU, but 1-2 may be present in the PCU per shift. Nurses are expected to work four shifts a week, with weekend coverage usually required every other weekend based on staffing needs. There is a floating requirement; nurses should expect to work either in the ICU or PCU and may occasionally float to other departments as necessary.
