Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN General) Profession: Nursing Specialty: Staff Augmentation Duration: 26 weeks Shift: Evening Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: Active RN License Certifications: Relevant nursing certifications preferred Must-Have: - Professional nursing care experience - Ability to provide care in a correctional setting - Skills in administering medications and treatments - Experience with patient assessment and monitoring Description: Provides professional nursing care to patients in a correctional facility. Observes, assesses, and records symptoms, reactions, and progress of patients. Makes nursing rounds and takes and records vital signs. Prepares and administers prescribed medications and ordered treatment plans. Monitors restrained patients on a timely basis and provides immediate medical attention in emergencies. Acts as a lead worker in charge of an assigned shift when necessary. Participates in staff development and education activities. Reviews care plans written by staff and trains or orients new employees. Organizes and oversees code blue teams and directs healthcare staff assigned to the area. Performs clerical tasks such as documenting medications, treatments, and pertinent medical information. Completes required reports and maintains inventory of controlled substances and medical equipment. Arranges out-patient clinic appointments and medical examinations as needed. Performs administrative tasks and attends meetings as required. Serves as an instructor on occasion and participates in problem-solving teams or groups. Knowledge of professional nursing procedures and relevant regulations is required. Skill in operating medical equipment such as stethoscopes and blood pressure cuffs is essential. Ability to write meaningful and accurate reports and gather information about patients is necessary. Physical fitness is also required to perform nursing duties effectively.
