Must-Have: RN must be able to read strips. Experience with set-rate Cardizem & Amiodarone. Experience with TR Bands is a plus.

Description: The unit has a mixture of MedSurg and cardiac observation patients. There are 21 beds in total, usually staffed for 18. Average nurse-patient ratio is 1:6. Common diagnoses include pre/post Cath, chest pain rule-outs on heparin drips, COPD, CHF, pacemakers, and arrhythmias. RN duties include performing EKGs, bladder scans, fingerstick blood sugar tests, and taking vital signs. RNs are expected to manage supportive therapy equipment, specifically Cpap and Bipap. High-flow therapy is not within the unit's scope. Charge Nurses are available 24/7 with a Day Charge who may take patients sometimes and a Night Charge always taking patients. Nurse Aides are present with ratios of 1:10 or sometimes 1:14-15 based on staffing and census. RNs must read and interpret monitor strips. Shifts are strictly 12-hour, with a clock in policy preventing entry before specific times. All time-off requests must be made upfront and noted in the contract. Weekend shifts typically require working every other weekend with night shifts on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Perm staff has a different holiday rotation than travel staff. Travel staff may be floated to other units within the facility but will only care for patients within their skillset. Uniform requirements dictate wearing Royal Blue scrubs without hoodies or sweatjackets. The unit operates in a fast-paced environment and may discharge up to six patients and admit six or more daily. Cancellation policy allows for two shifts to be canceled during a 13-week assignment. The facility uses an electronic charting system.
