Structures Technician
The Structures Technician researches technical data and performs inspection, repair, and replacement of aircraft sheet metal structures, including main landing gear fittings, aircraft skins, and floor beams, in accordance with applicable maintenance manuals, FAA regulations, and company policies and procedures. This role focuses on planning, fabricating, assembling, installing, and repairing metallic and nonmetallic components for a wide range of commercial aircraft, ensuring safety, structural integrity, and regulatory compliance throughout the service life of the fleet.
Responsibilities
- Research technical data and follow applicable maintenance manuals, FAA regulations, and company policies and procedures when performing all work.
- Inspect, repair, and replace aircraft sheet metal structures, including main landing gear fittings, aircraft skins, and floor beams.
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and product specifications to determine the sequence and methods of fabricating, assembling, and installing sheet metal products.
- Plan, lay out, fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal parts, equipment, and products using knowledge of metallic and nonmetallic materials, machining, and layout techniques.
- Select appropriate gauge and type of sheet metal, such as stainless steel, steel, or aluminum, or nonmetallic materials such as plastics or fiberglass, according to product specifications.
- Lay out and mark dimensions and reference lines on materials using scribes, dividers, squares, and rulers, applying shop mathematics and layout techniques to develop and trace patterns of products or parts.
- Perform maintenance work such as repair and upkeep of company equipment and general shop housekeeping to maintain a safe and organized work area.
- Make accurate entries in the Component Removal Log and complete identification tags and repairable/parts routing tags when removing components from aircraft.
- Ensure proper documentation of training received by recording it in training records and obtaining required signatures, and make appropriate entries on routine and non-routine work cards.
- Work on commercial aircraft larger than a CRJ 900, including Boeing and Airbus platforms, with a focus on structural and sheet metal tasks.
- Participate in overtime work on an as-needed basis to support operational requirements.
- Support a contract-to-hire arrangement by maintaining strong performance, safety, and work ethic to meet conversion expectations.
Essential Skills
- 35+ years of experience working with aircraft structures, sheet metal repair, and modification.
- Hands-on experience with aircraft sheet metal repair, including riveting, drilling, and structural rework.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and product specifications for aircraft structures and sheet metal fabrication.
- Proficiency in planning, laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, and repairing sheet metal parts and assemblies.
- Experience working on commercial aircraft larger than a CRJ 900, with Boeing and Airbus platforms preferred.
- Strong understanding of shop mathematics and layout techniques for pattern development and precise measurement.
- Ability to select appropriate materials, including stainless steel, steel, aluminum, plastics, and fiberglass, based on product specifications.
- Capability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs unassisted, frequent bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, kneeling, balancing, and reaching above shoulder level.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in an MRO or aircraft modification environment, particularly with cargo conversion programs such as B777 cargo conversion.
- Familiarity with aircraft maintenance documentation, including component removal logs, identification tags, and routing tags.
- Basic set of personal tools suitable for aircraft sheet metal and structures work.
- Experience with commercial aviation environments, including narrow and wide body aircraft and storage or reclamation operations.

Work Environment
This role operates on a first shift schedule, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work is primarily associated with a B777 Cargo Conversion Program, with the possibility of assignments across the wider property as needed. The position requires extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking, along with frequent bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, kneeling, balancing, and reaching above shoulder level, and occasional crawling, climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds unassisted. The work environment includes exposure to high-intensity noise levels, extreme temperature changes, materials listed on Safety Data Sheets, unprotected heights, moving machinery, and aircraft fuel tank entry areas. Technicians operate equipment such as hydraulic press brakes, power shears, forming equipment, hand tools, lift equipment, stands, ladders, glass beading equipment, rivet guns, and drills. Appropriate personal protective equipment, including goggles, safety glasses, face shields, ear protection, aprons, gloves, and safety harnesses, is required to ensure a safe working environment.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $39.12 - $46.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
