Additionally, staff will ensure that patients have all necessary information regarding their coverage and benefits related to their visit and inform patients of their financial obligations so that they arrive prepared. The schedgistrar duties also include generating weekly status reports, communications with multiple departments, collection of deposits and co-pays, and notifying financial counselors of any self-pay or uninsured patients. B. Essential Job Qualifications1. Education: Associate’s degree or equivalent experience required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.2. Experience: Previous work experience in customer service and general clerical/office procedures,required; Experience with EMR Scheduling and Registration; Minimum one yearexperience in a hospital, medical office/clinic, or insurance company, preferred. Bilingual inSpanish preferred3. Training/Certification: Medical Terminology certification preferred4. Licensure: N/A5. Other: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Proficient with Microsoft; EMRScheduling and Registration programs; Demonstrated problem-solving and inductivereasoning skillsC.Job Specific Contacts1.General Contacts: Patients, family members, insurance carriers, physicians, physician’s office staff, hospital personnel, Third Party vendor representatives.2.Job Provides Direction to: N/A JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:Demonstrates the required job specific technical/professional knowledge, skills and abilities. \\*1Fields incoming scheduling calls, keeping an accurate record of appointments scheduled, changed, or cancelled to avoid over- or under-booking2.Interviews and pre-registers patients in a prompt, professional, courteous, and confidential manner3.Verifies that all data on registrations are complete and accurate4.Collects all proper insurance information using various computer software programs to assure guarantee of payment5.Contacts third-party payers in order to secure benefits and coverage information, and ensures applicable insurance authorizations are obtained within specified timelines6.Makes arrangements for payment or collects co-payments and deposits over the telephone.7.Provides patients with information regarding hospital policy and procedures, and directs patients to appropriate nursing or ancillary units8.Must be familiar with medical terminology9.Ability to perform a variety of tasks, often changing assignments on short notice10.Must be adept at multi-tasking11.Will be required to learn and work with multiple software/hardware products during the course of an average workday12.Excellent written, verbal, and listening communication skills13.Demonstrated ability to handle confidential data and respond to concerns and comments in a professional manner14.Knowledge of state and federal billing rules and regulations15.Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.Montefiore Nyack Hospital is an equal employment opportunity employer.
