THE POSITION

Build valuable customer service skills as a Temporary, Part-time Tourist Information Counselor with the Department of Transportation. In this role, you assist guests at the Welcome Center by sharing important travel details and promoting attractions across Pennsylvania. You will work in a fast-paced setting where every interaction helps someone have a better trip. Become part of a team that takes pride in guiding travelers and supporting statewide tourism.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the daily operations of the Welcome Center by assisting travelers, maintaining displays, and helping with communication efforts. As a Temporary, Part-time Tourist Information Counselor, you will perform the following duties:

• Traveler Assistance: Provide directions, travel details, and tourism information to visitors at the Welcome Center
• Center Operations: Open or close the Welcome Center, maintain clean displays, and manage literature and supply inventory
• Customer Service: Greet guests, answer questions about Pennsylvania, and represent the Welcome Center professionally
• Report Preparation: Complete daily reports, customer counts, reservation logs, and visitor notations
• Inventory Management: Unpack, store, and track literature and supplies and coordinate with vendors when needed
• Program Support: Assist with tours, travel shows, outreach events, and special assignments from supervisors

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Part-time temporary "on call" employment.
• Shifts vary and working hours are based on operational need.
• On call shifts can range from 7:00AM to 7:00PM, (temporarily hours are 9:00AM to 5:30PM), 7 days per week.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year of experience in work involving public contact; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

• You must be willing and able to work in and commute to Pike County PennDOT Welcome Center: I-84, Exit 53, Matamoras.
• You must have the ability to be "on call" between 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, seven days a week. Current hours are 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
• You must have the ability to report to work within 1-hour of being called in.
• You must have front facing public contact experience.
• You must have experience working with computers.
• You must have experience answering phones, composing emails, compiling reports, tracking office activities and inventory, entering data, and filing.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

• Five or more years of full-time experience in work involving front facing public.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
