Pharmacy Intern Grad

Overview

Provides pharmacy consulting services to customers regarding the effective usage of medications, awareness of drug interactions, and offering preventive healthcare services such as immunizations. Responsible for ensuring the proper compounding, dispensation, review and verification of prescribed medications within regulatory guidelines, company policies and procedures. Supports the efficient workflow of the pharmacy and assists the pharmacy manager in identifying ways to optimize pharmacy financials, inventory management and enhance customer experience.

Responsibilities

• Customer Experience: Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve customer issues in a timely manner and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
• Customer Experience: Model and share customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits.
• Customer Experience: Develop strong relationships with most valuable customers by anticipating needs and proactively offering services, including healthcare services such as patient consultation, medication management, drug therapy reviews, immunizations, flu shots, and diabetes awareness to promote a shift from transactional to interpersonal pharmacy care.
• Operations: Counsel patients and answer questions regarding usage of medicine, side effects, interactions, contraindications, patient information privacy, generics, cost considerations, and over‑the‑counter products; refer to medical providers as needed.
• Operations: Perform pharmacist tasks including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management; review, interpret and dispense prescribed medications as workload requires.
• Operations: Ensure the pharmacy operates in accordance with regulations, policies and standards; assist with establishing procedures to promote efficient workflow, assign roles, coordinate activities and solicit employee input; manage opening/closing and shift changes.
• Operations: Ensure adherence to Good Faith Dispensing policy with state and federal controlled substance laws; assume ultimate responsibility for ensuring Good Faith elements are present.
• Operations: Maintain knowledge of pharmacy IT systems (e.g., Intercom Plus, registers, automation, StoreNET) and implement enhancements to promote productivity.
• Operations: Ensure accurate processing of insurance claims, follow up with insurers and providers, and participate in third‑party audits.
• Operations: Follow up with medical providers to clarify prescriptions, dosages, refills, interactions and allergies, to suggest alternatives and answer provider questions.
• Operations: Perform retail, clinical and wellness services such as immunizations, flu shots, diabetes awareness and other preventive healthcare services.
• Operations: Analyze performance data with the Pharmacy Manager and Store Manager; implement procedures for asset protection and inventory management; review KPIs.
• Operations: Develop and maintain relationships with local medical professionals; participate in community outreach to promote the pharmacy business and growth opportunities.
• Operations: Partner with Central Pharmacy Operations for customer registration and third‑party reviews; assist in resolving customer issues to support Well Experience locations. In virtual environments, conduct virtual product reviews following company procedures (e.g., using photographs supplied by technicians).

People & Performance Management

• Assist the Pharmacy Manager with staff hiring and training; coach and provide feedback, monitor customer service, and foster employee development.
• Promote teamwork and motivate team members by setting expectations, recognizing progress, and fostering a shared vision.

Training & Personal Development

• Maintain current knowledge of pharmacy and healthcare by reading journals and publications; pursue best practices to enhance performance.
• Obtain necessary certifications and training as required by the Company.
• Seek professional development by monitoring performance, soliciting feedback, and leveraging managers as mentors.

Communications

• Support the Pharmacy Manager and Store Manager by communicating relevant corporate health and wellness services or strategy information to pharmacy staff.

Basic Qualifications

• Willingness to obtain a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited institution prior to start date.
• Willingness to obtain pharmacist licensure from the state boards within the district within 90 days of hire per district guidelines.
• Certified Immunizer or willingness to become one within 90 days of hire.
