Lead Technician

*Lead Cable Technician / Crew Lead - Data Center (Fiber & Structured Cabling)* Columbus, OH Full-Time | Contract-to-Hire | Long-Term Project $29-$35 an hour (Based on Experience) *About the Role* We are seeking an experienced *Lead Cable Technician / Crew Lead* to support large-scale*data center infrastructure projects* in the Columbus area. This is a hands-on leadership position where you'll spend approximately *80% of your time in the field working alongside your team*, and *20% handling coordination, communication, and administrative responsibilities*. This role is idealfor a strong technician ready to step into leadership or an experienced lead who wants to stay technically involved while helping drive project success. *What You'll Be Doing* *Field Leadership & Execution* * Lead and supervise crews performing *fiber optic and structured cabling installations* * Act as the *on-site coordinator* for voice and data projects * Pull, route, terminate, and troubleshoot *fiber and copper cabling* * Perform *quality checks* and ensure installations meet project specifications * Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in real time *Project Coordination & Administration (20%)* * Serve as the *primary on-site point of contact* for customers and stakeholders * Support the Superintendent with: * Workforce coordination * Material tracking and allocation * Daily reporting and project updates * Complete required documentation: * Timesheets * Work orders * Change orders * Material transfers * Redlines and as-built drawings *Crew Oversight & Safety* * Lead crews to ensure productivity, quality, and job completion goals are met * Conduct *weekly safety meetings* and enforce all safety standards * Train and mentor less experienced technicians * Promote accountability and maintain high-performance standards *Planning & Quality Control* * Read and interpret *blueprints, diagrams, and project specifications* * Coordinate cross-connects, cut sheets, and cable routing plans * Ensure all work aligns with *industry standards and customer expectations* * Maintain organized and accurate project documentation *Required Skills & Experience* * Minimum *3+ years of experience* in telecommunications or structured cabling * At least *6 months of leadership or supervisory experience* * Strong hands-on experience with: * *Fiber optic installation and termination* * *Cat5/Cat6 structured cabling* * Cable routing, installation, and troubleshooting * Ability to read and interpret *blueprints and technical documents* * Knowledge of *industry color codes and cabling standards* * Proficiency with *Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Project)* *Key Skills* * Fiber Optics & Structured Cabling * Troubleshooting & Installation * Cat5 / Cat6 Cable Systems * Leadership & Team Management * Customer Communication * Data Entry & Reporting *Physical & Work Environment Requirements* * Ability to *work at heights, on ladders, and in confined spaces* * Lift up to *50 lbs regularly (up to 75 lbs occasionally)* * Comfortable working across *large job sites and active construction environments* * Ability to distinguish colors accurately (critical for cable identification) * Willingness to travel within the regional area as needed *Tools & Technical Knowledge* Familiarity and hands-on experience with: * Punch-down tools (110/66 blocks) * Crimping tools (RJ45) * Cable testers, volt-ohm meters, and continuity testers * Standard telecom and electrical hand tools *Why This Opportunity Stands Out* Leadership role with *significant hands-on involvement* Work on *large-scale data center and fiber deployments* Clear path to *Project Lead / higher leadership roles* Long-term, stable work with a growing pipeline of projects Opportunity to develop both *technical and management skills* *Who Should Apply* * Lead technicians or senior techs ready to step into a *crew leadership role* * Experienced cabling professionals who enjoy *hands-on work and team leadership* * Candidates with *fiber and data center experience* seeking long-term growth If you're ready to take ownership of projects, lead teams in the field, and grow your career in structured cabling and data center construction, apply today. *Job Type & Location*This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Albany, OH. *Pay and Benefits*The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $34.00/hr.
