Environmental, Health and Safety Manager

Environmental, Health and Safety Manager We are seeking an Environmental, Health and Safety Manager to join our team and help drive our continued success. This role plays an important part in supporting our customers, strengthening our business, and contributing to the long‑term growth of Douglas Dynamics. How You Will Contribute This role is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and continuously improving the Commercial Snow & Ice (CSI) environmental, health and safety programs, by the following: Create, lead, and document the safety training program following OSHA Guidelines. Maintain accurate and compliant safety policies. Ensure the integration of safety in the launch of new product, acquisition of new equipment, and other operational changes. Serve as the facility’s subject matter expert for all safety topics and use that expertise to guide policy decisions. Advise in the design and selection of new equipment and processes and ensure proper safety measures are in place during implementation. Lead the ongoing enhancement of Safety Management System frameworks, partnering cross‑divisionally to integrate best practices and embed a culture of continuous improvement. Maintain the Safety Database and ensure incident investigations lead to the effective and timely implementation of corrective actions. Proactively seek out safety improvement ideas and help other employees evaluate them and drive them to conclusion. Initiate regular and frequent safety communications in multiple formats to sustain a safety‑focused culture. Lead safety training and ensure that employees receive the appropriate training for their departments and positions. Collect data on our safety performance, analyze it for trends and opportunities, and report findings to key leaders. Help ensure OSHA compliance by auditing and monitoring for conformity. Work with individuals at other sites within the division to share best practices and provide support where expertise is required. Foster teamwork by working across functions with engineering, maintenance, and other departments to pursue improvement opportunities. Plan and lead cross‑functional kaizen events for large projects and initiatives. Own the Safety Observation process and help others to observe and coach fellow employees. Identify hazards throughout the plant, define the appropriate risk controls, and help supervisors ensure compliance. Ensure policies, procedures and safety measures are clearly defined and available. Perform tests and conduct measurements and audits related to process controls and exposures. Maintain all required safety documentation for the site and ensure individual records are kept updated. Assure that all applicable environmental regulations are followed. Work with Corporate sustainability team to support ESG reporting and initiatives. Provide supervision of safety specialist across CSI. What This Role Needs Education or Degree: Minimum 2‑Year Technical/Associates Degree in a related field or equivalent experience. Working Experience & Knowledge: 5+ years of combined experience managing safety programs in a manufacturing or industrial setting. Experience interpreting and ensuring compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements. Experience with the management of data, including logs and records required to demonstrate compliance. Hands‑on design, implementation, management and continuous improvement of processes, tooling, and equipment with special awareness of ergonomics, machine guarding, interlocks, respiratory health, hearing conservation, electrical safety, hand tool safety and PPE assessments. Hands‑on experience in a Lean Organization using practices equivalent to the Douglas Dynamics Management System (DDMS, based on the Toyota Production System). Other related knowledge, skills, and competencies: Experienced customer‑centric leader with a strong sense of team and integrity, capable of achieving quantifiable results through the ability to recognize and work with people with different learning styles. Maintain unbiased perspectives when teaching and coaching teammates to systematically identify appropriate improvements/solutions through following established processes and collecting/analyzing/using data. Maintain patience while indirectly influencing teams to take ownership for the continued development and use of new programs, skills, tools they have acquired through training. Establish direct, collaborative relationships with internal Douglas Dynamics cross‑location, cross‑department teammates. Capable and respectful communication in all forms (written, oral, and non‑verbal) to assist with developing skills to teach and mentor while inspiring the desire to learn. Listening, learning and strategically adjusting message style when acquiring new information; flexibility. Special emphasis on the ability to guide others through root cause analysis and problem solving that results in root‑cause corrective actions. Develop presentations with a logical flow and outline to support presenting training materials with an influential message inspiring the desire to learn. High level of proficiency working with Microsoft Suite including but not limited to Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Ability to efficiently analyze data and develop logical conclusions as well as identify opportunities. Ability to prioritize multiple projects and balance schedules corresponding to customer expectations. Adept at working independently. 1st Aid Certified or prepared to become 1st Aid Certified.
