Position Summary:
The Dental Assistant provides chairside support during dental surgical and other procedures under the direct supervision of a dentist. This role prepares treatment rooms, patients, instruments, and supplies; assists during procedures by anticipating provider needs and passing instruments; and helps ensure a safe, efficient clinical environment. Responsibilities include maintaining instrument sterilization, adhering to infection control and safety protocols, documenting treatment notes, updating patient records, and supporting patient education to deliver an exceptional patient experience in a specialized healthcare setting.

Education/Criteria:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a Dental Assistant training program
• Certified Dental Assistant preferred
• BLS Certification Required

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• At least 3 years of dental assistant experience required

Expectations:
Needs to be self-motivated and able to complete work independently. Also needs to work cooperatively with others in a multi-disciplinary team environment. Strong organizational and professional communication skills are necessary.


Responsibilities/Duties:

• Provide chairside assistance during dental examinations, procedures, and treatments.
• Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, materials, and equipment for patient care.
• Welcome and prepare patients, obtain health histories, and support a positive patient experience.
• Educate patients and caregivers on oral health and post-treatment care instructions.
• Assist in coordinating care for patients with bleeding disorders and other complex medical conditions.
• Clean, sterilize, and maintain instruments and equipment while adhering to infection control and safety standards.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation within the electronic health record (EHR).
• Monitor inventory and assist with ordering dental supplies as needed.
• Support scheduling, patient follow-up, quality improvement initiatives, and other clinic operations.
• Participate in team meetings, training, and continuing education opportunities as applicable.
• Perform all duties in compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, organizational policies, and Wisconsin scope-of-practice requirements.
