Maintenance Technician

The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is seeking a motivated, driven, and collaborative individual to join our Maintenance team as a full-time Maintenance Technician.

Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Department: Maintenance

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt; Bargaining Unit Position; Full-time

Compensation: $21.22 per hour plus a comprehensive benefit package, which includes medical, dental, vision, life and LTD insurance, FSA, HRA, 403(b) retirement plan with Roth option, complimentary membership and guest passes, paid holidays, personal business time, sick leave, and vacation.

Summary

Performs maintenance tasks as part of the Maintenance department, in support of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. Maintains, repairs, and installs physical plant systems including, but not limited to, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, exhibits and paths on grounds by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Receives written work orders or verbal instructions from supervisor.
  • Performs plumbing, electrical, carpentry fabrication, welding fabrication.
  • Installs system material and components in accordance with blue prints, manuals, building codes and ASDM operating standards.
  • Performs general painting on buildings inside and out.
  • Maintenance, repair and installation of plumbing systems throughout the Museum.
  • Maintenance, repair and installation of telephone and data cabling systems.
  • Maintenance, repair and installation of ASDM Filter Building pumps and water systems.
  • Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on all ASDM refrigerators, freezers, and other equipment.
  • Assists other departments as required.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Journeyman electrical skills are required.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have the ability to be trained to perform basic data entry for timekeeping and e-mail purposes.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid Arizona driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
