Job Description Department or Location: School-Based Position Type: Certified / Contracted Job Title: Assistant Principal FLSA Status: Exempt Reports To: School Principal Days Worked: 210 Days (11 months) Education & Qualifications Education: Master’s degree required; specialist or doctorate preferred. Certification or Licensure: Valid Georgia educator’s certificate required; Georgia Professional Certification in Educational Leadership or eligibility for NPL with a specialist degree program, PL6 certification within five years. Skills: Knowledge of effective practices in curriculum, instruction, program development, school operations, pupil services; ability to work with teachers and colleagues; motivate and inspire staff; organization, planning, decision‑making; maintain confidentiality; model professional ethics; excellent oral and written communication; interpersonal skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office and integrated applications. Work Experience: Minimum three years of successful classroom teaching, preferably at the same level as the administration to be held. Primary Duty This position assists in managing and supervising all instructional programs, policies, and activities to ensure high‑quality educational experiences in a safe, enriching learning environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist in providing educational leadership by establishing a climate conducive to learning, planning, and coordinating effective instructional programs. Implement systematic procedures to assess program effectiveness and compile necessary reports to support findings. Work with the Principal to compile, analyze, and evaluate school and student achievement data to develop and implement the school improvement plan. Ensure appropriate programming for all students and initiate a response to intervention referrals and intra‑school placement as directed by the Principal. Assist with the implementation of a school discipline plan that contains clear expectations and adheres to the district’s Code of Conduct. Monitor, assist and evaluate staff implementation of school improvement plans, SACs, SAT, Academic Reform Plans and effective instructional and assessment practices. Conduct teacher‑parent‑pupil conferences to promote maximum student achievement through RTI, Student Support Teams and other appropriate interventions. Supervise teaching and learning on a continuous basis to improve classroom instruction and teacher‑pupil relationships. Supervise and coordinate the inventory of all instructional materials, textbooks and equipment. Coordinate and supervise lunch, bus, hall duty and instructional, athletic, extracurricular activities. Assist the Principal in developing and monitoring the master schedule and make recommendations affecting student scheduling. Evaluate teachers and other support staff according to the district’s policies and procedures as directed by the Principal. Assume responsibilities assigned by the Principal in the recruitment, orientation, placement, supervision and evaluation of staff. Assist with identifying professional learning needs and develop and implement the school improvement plan to meet those needs. Supervise after‑school programs and extracurricular activities as needed. Build and maintain relationships with PTA/PTO, School Council and other community organizations to ensure ongoing communication and foster parent and community involvement. Assist in maintaining a safe and orderly environment by implementing and communicating the emergency procedures and Emergency Preparedness Plan. Foster a school climate that supports student and staff success and promotes respect and appreciation for all students, teachers, staff and families. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.
