Location: Comfort Elementary School School Report to: Principal Start Date: Immediately Terms of Employment: 10 months Qualifications: Associate's Degree or equivalent semester hours to meet highly qualified status. An employee in this class provides support to the teacher in the instruction of students. A wide variety of tasks are performed to support the teacher in the teaching-learning process for students. The work is directed by specific instructions, precedents and established policy. Problems are solved through the exercise of judgment in selecting the best course of action to be taken. Errors are expected to be recognized promptly by the supervisor and corrected with little negative consequence. The work is performed under the limited supervision of the teacher and/or principal. JOB SUMMARY: A.Academic Assistance
• Leads small group and whole group instruction as prescribed by teacher
• Demonstrates a working knowledge of the core subjects at the grade level to which employmentassignment is made
• Comprehends the purpose of teacher designed strategies and how those strategies work to fulfill theinstructional objective
• Imparts information on the child's level of comprehension
• Makes and uses learning aids which strengthen lesson plans
• Monitors student work and progress as assigned by teacher
• Confers with teacher on the students' progress
• Provides individualized instruction as directed B.Instructional Preparation/Support
• Assists the teacher with planning and organizing instructional duties and activities to meet goals andobjectives, as applicable
• Enters and maintains classroom data accurately and according to regulatory requirements
• Assists in the preparation of materials in a timely and effective manner
• Performs clerical duties in a timely and useful manner
• Reorganizes materials at the end of day and performs routine classroom housekeeping duties as required
• Uses appropriate technology necessary to support instruction C.Monitors Student Behavior
• Supervises students in the classroom and other locations
• Helps ensure students maintain high levels of time on task
• Helps teach citizenship, respect for others, social skills, and conflict resolution skills
Impartially and consistently applies proper methods of recognition, reward and discipline
• Discerns significant student behavior and refers it to the supervisor
• Promotes student self-esteem Physical Requirements:
• Teacher Assistants may be required to walk students to the cafeteria, office, or another location in
the school.
• Teacher Assistants may, at times, have to stoop down to help or assist a student with a personal
situation, which could result in the Teacher Assistant having to physically help the student.
• Teacher Assistants may be required to lift 20 lbs.
• Teacher Assistants may be required to be on their feet for an extended period of time.
Special Requirements:
• Must meet the Highly Qualified requirements as outlined in the No Child Left Behind Act of 2002,
Associate's Degree or Equivalent Hrs.
• Must obtain a bus license and drive a school bus as needed by the district
