Lone Star Materials, a specialized trucking company, is a subsidiary of Lone Star Paving. As a team, the companies operate in the Central Texas region with paving crews, HMA, aggregate, trucking, milling, and quality control. Our operations complete heavy highway and civil projects throughout Texas. Position OverviewThe Heavy Paving Equipment/Diesel Mechanic (NON-DOT) will work closely with the Milling, Asphalt, Trucking, and Maintenance Teams to ensure company-owned tools, equipment and vehicles are always maintained in good working order, consistent with direction provided by his/her direct manager.The ideal candidate has experience with maintenance of diesel equipment, particularly relating to trucking machinery, is familiar with paving operations in heavy highways, keeps safety at the forefront, values dependability and reliability, can work independently with exemplary work ethic, and holds a valid driver's license. Key Responsibilities Evaluate condition of defective tools, equipment and fleet vehicles located at the Yard, at construction job sites, or other locations such as roadsides; collaborate with the Equipment Manager in trouble shooting defective equipment and participate in discussions to arrive to solutions for dealing with defective items.For items requiring more extensive or unusual repairs, prepare an estimate of cost to complete repair and seek authorization to proceed from the Equipment Manager before commencing repair.Following a standard maintenance schedule developed collaboratively with the Equipment Manager, perform routine maintenance on company-owned tools, equipment and vehicles. Ensure that maintenance is performed on schedule, to standard and that accurate logs of such maintenance are kept up to date.Place approved orders for replacement parts with vendors; ensure that the Equipment Manager is informed of all such deliveries and that all associated paperwork is provided to the Equipment Manager in a timely manner.Before departing work each day, ensure that the shop area is neat, clean and orderly; all tools are stored in their proper place, and the shop surfaces are free of trash and debris.Familiarity with Texas area and roadwaysUnderstands the complexities of the trucking and asphalt industriesAdditional responsibilities as may be assumed or assigned from time to time in support of our company's effort to achieve client loyalty. QualificationsTrade school or 3-5+ years of qualified experienceCandidates must possess a driver's license that is valid and clear.Work experience with diagnostics, maintenance, and operation of asphalt, milling, and trucking equipment and vehicles.Must be organized with a detail-oriented mindsetMust be positive, friendly, and professionalAbility to work well with others in a group or one-on-one settingPromote, execute and adhere to the company's safety policy, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas.Collaborate with any project teams on other special initiatives, as required. Knowledge/Skill RequirementsHigh School Diploma or GED, but not requiredKnowledge of how equipment and vehicles operate and are maintainedAbility to engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.Must demonstrate professional communication in reaching out to employees and managers for needed documentsWillingness to take on additional tasks and responsibilities as they ariseExhibit excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize various tasks and complete them in a timely mannerAble to perform duties independentlyWorking knowledge of asphalt production and associated equipment, and an understanding of operations and safety requirements is preferred.Familiarity with MSHA and OSHA regulations, a plus Working ConditionsMechanics may work at various locations, including construction sites, mines, other heavy equipment operations, and roadside locations.Employees must have the ability to perform sustained and vigorous activities in a variety of environments, temperatures, and weather conditions, which could include but not be limited to inclement weather, heat and humidity, exposure to dust and asphalt, and roadway traffic.Exposure to grease, oils, and lubricants.Must be able to move over rough terrain at various project sites.Be available for overtime, extended hours, night shifts, and weekends as required.Travel may be required as our operations span throughout Texas.Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.Proper PPE is required at all times.Requires periodic participation and attendance at company events and meetings BenefitsThis position is FULL TIMEThe pay structure for this role will be based on competitive hourly rateThis position will qualify for the employee benefit programsComprehensive medical, dental and disability benefits programs401k retirement planEmployee Stock Purchase Plan The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.
