Principal Structural or Architectural Engineer (MS/PhD) Location: Washington, DC (serving VA‑Alexandria, MD‑Bowie, MA‑Natick) Practice: Civil and Structural Engineering Position Type: Full‑time Base Salary: USD 181,000 – 284,000 /Yr. Responsibilities Lead business generation and client development efforts Inspect and analyze root causes of structural/building envelope performance failures Conduct projects and supervise others in analytical and computer problem solving Lead field investigations and diagnostic surveys Prepare and present technical reports and complex engineering assessments Continue professional development to maintain expertise Provide expert testimony where appropriate Qualifications M.S. or Ph.D. in Civil, Structural, Architectural Engineering or related field Significant business development experience with a proven track record Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) in at least one state Ability to attract projects to support staff and manage a high‑motivated team Minimum 10 years of technical engineering and project management experience post‑graduation Outstanding professional reputation with an existing client base Experience providing expert testimony in dispute resolution settings Significant experience in construction claims, dispute resolution, and litigation services Experience drafting and reviewing analysis, reports, and presentations Effective leadership skills with ability to interact positively with professionals, technical staff, and administrative staff Strong client base in similar markets Dedication to quality and accuracy Benefits & EEO Exponent is a proud equal–opportunity employer.
