Distribution Engineer

Description Leidos is seeking Distribution Engineers & Designers who are passionate about electric utility design engineering. In this role you will work directly with clients to develop and maintain high‑quality design and construction work packages for overhead and underground distribution systems. Expectations Independently develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for Leidos electric utility customers. Review client work and assess the requirements of scopes. Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specification of conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker. Provide engineering support during construction, including post‑construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met. Conduct root‑cause analysis of outages and mitigate using engineering principles and design. Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements, develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, and prepare work permit development, easements, and ROW applications. Background Requirements 2+ years of prior relevant experience. Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering; additional relevant experience or certifications may be considered in lieu of a degree. Experience with the execution of distribution projects from kickoff through design approval, including customer interaction and process documentation. Experience with utility reliability projects. Proficiency with the NESC. Ability to use a personal vehicle; some client‑related travel may be required. Travel will be reimbursed at IRS‑approved rates. Willingness to perform both field and office work; ability to work outdoors on occasion. Customer‑site visits may be required to collect field data to develop work packages. Valid U.S. driver’s license. Nice to Haves Previous QA/QC experience. Experience providing estimated costs, developing a BOM, and calculating CIAC. Experience with design tools such as Pole Foreman, O‑Calc, Spida‑Calc. Experience with the Work Management System CREWS. 1 year or more of relevant management or leadership experience.
