The telemetry units are designated for patients requiring cardiac monitoring. The anticipated shift ratio is 1 nurse to 5 patients for both day and night shifts. The unit aims to maintain an efficient staff-to-patient ratio and high levels of patient care. Nurse aides are available to support nursing staff, with the ideal staffing being three per floor. Every other weekend work is expected for both day and night shifts. Holidays are based on unit needs, with an expectation for travelers to work if required. Scrub color is navy blue, with specific requirements for jackets and undershirts. Monitors are Phillips cardiac monitors, with nurses reviewing and documenting data every four hours. Nurses will manage various intravenous drips according to protocols. Respiratory therapy services are available 24/7. Pharmacy support is also available round the clock, with staff present during the day shift. Common patient diagnoses include elevated troponin levels, NSTEMI, post-cardiac interventions, and peritoneal dialysis. The unit operates 12-hour shifts, with scheduling requests submitted in advance. Floating to other departments is rare, but may occur in specific circumstances. Orientation provided will vary based on individual experience.
