District Maintenance Technician

Job TitleJob Goal: To provide a safe and efficient environment for the purpose of education.Qualifications:Physical Examination as required by the districtKnowledgeable of building maintenance (electricity, plumbing, heating, carpentry, building construction) and operationShall be of mental and physical condition which would not interfere with accomplishing assignmentsKnowledge of Building, Plumbing and Electric Codes for City, State, and National StandardsHave good communication skillsKnowledgeable of OSHA, Right to Know, AHERA, and Radon lawsChild Abuse Certificate on fileHealth Certificate on fileCertification, experience, and other qualifications as determined by the Director of Building and GroundsMaintain a good rapport with all district staff and business associates of the school districtReports to: Director of Building and GroundsPerformance Responsibilities:Maintain the day-to-day operations and assume responsibility for maintaining the following systems: commercial wiring, HVAC, Boilers, and plumbing as directed by the Building and Grounds DirectorHave the ability to evaluate and troubleshoot problems as they arise and be able to fix problems start to finish without helpKnowledge and experience with commercial 480/277 volt 3-phase electrical systemsGood knowledge required of electrical wiring diagrams and ability to troubleshoot VFD's, heat pumps, electric motors, Johnson Control temperature controls, and any other systems within buildingsAbility to perform work required unsupervised, be able to take directions and apply to work assignedResponsible for 24-hour emergency maintenance service as requiredCarry cell phone provided by the district as required for on-call maintenance as neededMust be professional, responsive, courteous, and efficient in the handling of all work order requestsAssure safety standards are used which comply with all school, local, city, state, and Federal guidelinesThe ability to exert 75 to 100 pounds of force or more occasionally, and 15 to 50 pounds of force frequently or constantlyLicensing:Any State of Iowa Journeyman electrical,plumbing, mechanical license highly beneficialLicenses or certificates supporting HVAC and Refrigeration desiredOther responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Building and Grounds.Terms of Employment: Salary and work year to be determined by the Superintendent and the Board of Education.Evaluations: Performance of this position will be evaluated by the Director of Building and Grounds.
