Horticulturist

Position Overview Full‑time, on‑site role located in Augusta, GA. Responsibilities Assist with the planning and implementation of all aspects of the annual program, including technical programs, ornamentals and annuals installation and maintenance, and the tournament flower program. Assist with the installation and maintenance of ornamentals and annuals. Assist with pesticide and fertilizer applications on annuals, containers, and hanging baskets throughout the season. Assist with scouting for disease and pests throughout the grounds and performing treatments when necessary. Maintain precise and detailed records. Communicate with management for scheduling of daily tasks. Provide labor and support a complete grounds maintenance program, including debris cleanup, weeding, aerating, watering, fertilizing, grading, trimming, planting and pruning within club grounds and the outside perimeter. Operate outdoor equipment properly and in accordance with club safety procedures; notify manager or grounds mechanics of equipment malfunctions or required maintenance. Abide by and perform work tasks in compliance with club procedures as well as local and state regulations. Select and conduct a research project related to issues pertaining to operations of the horticulture department. Perform other duties deemed by management to be integral to the job. Maintain the confidentiality of club business. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual in this position: constant use of arms, hands and fingers to handle or lift items up to 50 pounds; constant standing and walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or reaching with hands and arms; use of vision to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, visual inspection of property maintenance, hazards and safety violations, and operation of machines or golf carts (including inspection). Projected Work Schedule Must be available for a varying work schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required. Qualifications Skills, Knowledge, and Attributes Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to perform basic math calculations. Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to learn and/or operate basic landscaping equipment. Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge and ability to apply technical horticulture skills. Organizational and inventory control skills. Relative Experience/Education Minimum two‑year certificate or associate’s degree from an accredited horticulture program or related field. Bachelor’s degree in horticulture or related field preferred. Entry‑level position (0–2 years working experience). Required Licenses Possess a valid driver’s license and/or successfully complete the club’s internal motor‑vehicle training program.
