Job Summary Framingham Public Schools is hiring an English Teacher for Framingham High School, Framingham, Massachusetts. The teacher will serve as a primary educator and instructional leader, delivering high‑quality instruction that supports all students’ academic, social‑emotional, and mental health needs. The role advances the district’s goal of fostering the development of the "whole child," closing achievement gaps, and promoting equity, inclusion, and antiracism. Responsibilities Planning, Preparation, and Instruction Design a comprehensive program of study and individual lesson plans aligned with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district goals. Deliver high‑quality instruction using research‑based practices (e.g., Disciplinary Literacy, Science of Reading, inquiry‑based math). Utilize Universal Design for Learning principles to facilitate active learning and provide multiple entry points for diverse learners. Employ Tier 1 and Tier 2 interventions to meet the needs of students with IEPs, 504 plans, and English Language Learners. Leverage interactive technology and adaptive digital tools to enhance engagement, accessibility, and personalized learning. Classroom Environment and Management Create a safe, inclusive, culturally responsive classroom that honors student identity and fosters social‑emotional growth. Manage classroom dynamics by establishing proactive routines and using restorative justice techniques to resolve conflicts. Dismantle barriers to learning by ensuring the classroom is physically, emotionally, and academically accessible. Develop clear procedures that empower students to take ownership of behavior and classroom contributions. Assessment and Data‑Informed Practice Implement a balanced system of formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and academic development. Analyze standardized and local data (e.g., MCAS, i‑Ready, unit assessments) to identify learning gaps and adjust instruction in real time. Provide timely, specific, and growth‑oriented feedback to guide student mastery of core concepts. Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records of student progress in accordance with district policies. Communication and Collaboration Consult regularly with students, families, and community partners to foster a collaborative approach to student success. Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and multidisciplinary teams (Special Education, ESL, Mental Health). Communicate student progress, challenges, and achievements clearly and promptly to parents and guardians, ensuring language accessibility. Collaborate with administration to implement school‑wide policies and initiatives that enhance school culture and student conduct. Professional Responsibilities and Development Commit to ongoing professional development and stay current with evidence‑based practices and antiracist pedagogical frameworks. Contribute to the school community by attending staff meetings, serving on committees, and supporting extracurricular activities. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for educational support staff and volunteers to maximize their impact on student learning. Other Duties as assigned. Qualifications Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid Massachusetts Teaching License in English (Grades 5‑12) and SEI Endorsement. Educational Requirement : Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or a related field; Master’s Degree preferred. Professional Experience : Proven track record of delivering high‑quality instruction and managing a diverse classroom environment; experience in a school district or educational setting required. Language Proficiency : Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese preferred. Skills and Abilities Design and implement differentiated instruction for Tier 1 and Tier 2 interventions. Analyze standardized and formative assessment data to track student growth. Integrate SEL frameworks into daily routines to support the "whole child". Possess deep pedagogical knowledge of evidence‑based instructional practices in English Language Arts. Utilize restorative justice and conflict transformation techniques. Align lesson plans with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district goals. Integrate instructional technology (Google Classroom, interactive whiteboards, educational software). Collaborate within PLCs and interdisciplinary teams to support student success. Demonstrate cultural proficiency and competence in fostering an equitable and inclusive district environment. Maintain regular, punctual attendance and professionalism in unpredictable classroom situations. Physical Working Conditions Mobility, navigation, and travel: move throughout the school building and grounds for supervision and instruction. Stationary tasks: remain in a stationary position for instruction, administration, and meetings. Sensory requirements: see and hear continuously to ensure student safety and effective instruction. Communication: effectively communicate in person, via email, telephone, and video conference. Manual dexterity and technology: frequent use of hands to operate computers, input data, and employ instructional technology. General physical strength: lift, move, and position classroom materials and equipment up to 30 lb. Working environment: adapt to dynamic, high‑noise school environments during instruction, recess, and observations. Interaction and focus: interact routinely with diverse stakeholders and maintain focus amid interruptions. Behavioral de‑escalation and resilience: remain calm and professional when addressing student behavioral challenges.
