In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people. He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, the position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe list below reflects the general details considered necessary to describe the primary functions of the job identified and shall not be construed as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the job.As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both your professional and personal lifeAct as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic ChurchContinuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directedResponsible for management of the financial resources of the parish and its ministriesPrepares monthly financial reports for the church and school to submit to the dioceseAssists in preparing the annual operating budget of the parish and the schoolAssist the pastor and principal with budget monitoring and expense trackingAccurately maintain, process, and oversee employee payroll, benefits, vacation, sick time used, and journal entriesEnsure timeliness and accuracy of all accounts payableEnsures the parish and its ministries are compliant with all payroll tax and insurance responsibilitiesMaintains accurate financial records and filesMaintains responsible cash flow management system and maximizes cash management resourcesOversees accounting policies and procedures for the parish and its ministriesOversees counting and deposit of all parish funds; manages banking of the parish and its ministriesMaintains and administers petty cashParticipates in Finance Council meetings as required by the pastorInitiates all purchases (expenditures) and obtains approval of pastor as requiredEnsures pastor is informed and consulted on all matters and operations of the parishMaintains all records for Creating and Maintaining a Safe Environment for all church employees and volunteersAssist in answering the door and phone as neededPerforms other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONSHigh School Diploma or equivalent requiredMinimum of 5 years’ experience in bookkeeping or accountingDemonstrated knowledge of and experience with diocesan policies and procedures preferredValid Texas Driver’s License requiredSPECIAL SKILLS/KNOWLEDGEExcellent time management skills, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail, capacity to prioritize by assessing situations to determine urgency, and ability to undertake self-directed tasks when necessaryStrong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills with attention to serviceStrong critical thinking and problem-solving skillsProficiency in the use of computer programs is preferred: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Publisher), Adobe, QuickBooks, or other accounting softwareSelf-motivated and proactive with ability to follow procedures, work within established guidelines, and work independently as neededFlexible and adaptive to changeAbility to work independently and collaboratively with a teamORGANIZATION IMPROVEMENT AND MORALEAbility to maintain confidentiality and use discretionDemonstrates a professional attitudeEmploys professional ethics with colleagues and the community servedPositively contributes to the overall mission and values of the parish to promote a positive organizational cultureMENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDSLifting 10 pounds or moreProlonged use of computerADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Reports to PastorCertification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources is requiredCriminal background check and drug screeningMust adhere to diocesan policies and procedures #J-18808-Ljbffr
