Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Job Title

Under general supervision, performs skilled work in the repair, maintenance, overhaul and rebuilding of a wide variety of heavy diesel and gasoline vehicles and related construction equipment; and performs related duties as required.

Education and Experience/ Licenses and Other Requirements

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. Three (3) years of experience in performing skilled maintenance and repair work on heavy vehicles and equipment, including experience working on diesel engines. Possession of, or successful acquisition of a valid California Class A Driver's License within six (6) months of appointment, to be maintained throughout employment.

Supplemental Information

A valid driver's license may be required at the time of appointment and employees may also be required to drive their own vehicle and provide proof of liability insurance as per Vehicle Code VC 160020. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This position may require pre-employment drug test, physical examination, and fingerprinting for a background investigation.
