Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner Unpaid Intern

Under supervision of FCS MD or DO and following state regulations for the evaluation and prescribing of medications for new patients and follow-up consumers, Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant students will work within a Certified Community Behavioral Health Center (CCBHC) model to provide medication services, including office-based opioid treatment and outpatient withdrawal management. NP and PA students can be responsible for outpatient care of medical and psychiatric clients, liaison for hospital and structure emergency care for patients, participation inpatient care teams, and assistance to management, as requested. Students must demonstrate knowledge of co-occurring disorders and appropriate interventions. NP and PA students will maintain and adhere to the State of Oklahoma Scope of Practice Guidelines for their profession and adhere to university expectations

POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Consumer Engagement, Assessment & Prescribing Duties Be familiar with CCBHC standards, understand the history, philosophy, structure and purpose of CCBHC and demonstrate fidelity to the model. Conduct psychiatric assessments including review of psychiatric history, course of illness, response to treatment, mental status examination, and DSM-V diagnosis. Provide pharmacological management assessments (including review of vitals), prescribe psychotropic medications as clinically indicated, monitor Consumers for side effects, and educate Consumers regarding psychotropic medications and medication compliance. Provide office-based opioid treatment when appropriate, including MAT and withdrawal management. Along with other CCBHC team members, provide support and education to family members of clients to help them become knowledgeable about mental illness, collaborate in the treatment process and assist in their family member's progress. Maintain an 85% to 90% scheduling fill rate. Provide on-site crisis assessment for Consumers. Participate and supervise treatment planning meetings Offer services to Consumers that are welcoming and engaging, integrated, and comprehensive in scope of practice. Work with CCBHC team members to provides support and education to family members of clients to help them become knowledgeable about mental illness, collaborate in the treatment process and assist in their family member's progress. Work with CCBHC team members to provide support and education to family members of clients to help them become knowledgeable about cross-tolerance and other risks of continued opioid use, signs and symptoms of overdose, use of opioid antagonist medications and seeking emergency assistance when needed. Work collaboratively with psychiatry team to ensure that Consumers obtain medication prescriptions and refills, offer services to walk-in clients, intervention to stabilize crisis situations and design successful treatment tracks for Consumers. Direct and collaborate with the staff nurses to develop, revise, maintain and supervise team psycho-pharmacological and medical treatment and medication policies and procedures. Serve as liaison between F&CS and various hospital and emergency treatment facilities to obtain needed inpatient treatment for clients. Collaborate with staff nurses in assessment of Consumers physical health, making appropriate referrals to community physicians for comprehensive assessment and treatment, and coordinating medical treatments with psychiatric treatment. Document Consumer progress to maintain a permanent record of psychiatric outpatient treatment in FCS electronic health record, according to established methods and procedures within same day of service provided. May schedule evening clinics with treatment hours for Consumers who are unable to meet during normal daytime work hours. Daily complete all PAP signatures and application process requirements to ensure maximum acquisition of free medications into the F&CS pharmacy for distribution to Consumers. Provides psychiatric & primary care consultation to Adult Behavioral Health Home team TELE-PSYCHIATRY Family and Children Services supports tele-psychiatry to serve our consumers All Psychiatry Providers will be trained on the use of tele-psychiatry equipment and the necessary agency, state, and federal requirements which govern the use of tele-psychiatry When appropriate Psychiatry Providers will be asked to provide services via tele-psychiatry Family and Children Services will not deny services to any consumer who does not wish to participate in tele-psychiatry services. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Must be enrolled in an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant program with psychiatry specialty EXPERIENCE: Previous experience in mental health preferred. Autonomy: Having the self-discipline to initiate and prioritize work, remain self motivated, manage time independently, and ensure effectively client care delivery with minimal direct oversight. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES: Must be a licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Oklahoma Must be nationally certified by an appropriate certifying body. OTHER INFORMATION SAFETY SENSITIVE JOB CLASSIFICATION: This job is classified as a "safety-sensitive" position as defined by the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act. Due to the "safety-sensitive" classification, an employee in this position would be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included in the drug panel screening. Possession of a medical marijuana license will not excuse you from the testing process or the consequences of testing positive for marijuana per the Family & Children's Services Drug Free Workplace Policy, including possible revocation of a job offer or dismissal from employment.
