Men’s Homeless Shelter

The New York City Department of Homeless Services Bronx Men’s Homeless Shelter seeks to hire a Full-Time Housing Specialist who will assist residents in seeking and obtaining services available throughout their transition from temporary housing to permanent housing. The candidate must be knowledgeable and experienced with the DHS/OTDA system.

Position Summary

The Housing Specialist will:

• Conduct housing assessments to evaluate participants’ housing readiness, and overall needs.
• Facilitate housing workshops and provide accurate information regarding re-housing, public benefits, and tenancy-related matters.
• Educate tenants on their rights under applicable government regulations and housing laws.
• Provide comprehensive case management services, including assisting clients with applications for housing, rental assistance, and subsidy programs.
• Maintain detailed and accurate case notes, ensuring consistent daily and weekly follow-ups with residents regarding transitional goals and housing interviews.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in housing, real estate, or a related field.
• Experience building and maintaining relationships with citywide agencies and landlords.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with the homeless population.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.

• • 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
