Radiology Technician

Radiographer

Performs fluoroscopic procedures for the treatment of patients of all age groups, utilizing the guidelines of the professional radiology practice standards. Responsible for all duties related to imaging patient care, file room, general clerical, physician assistance, and other related duties necessary for complete patient outcomes in the outpatient surgery department.

Supervision received: Physician/Chief of the Medical Facility

Essential functions include:

• Instruct and prepare patients for radiologic examinations
• Determine the most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shield patients appropriately
• Explain the procedure to patients, remove articles such as jewelry, and position patients for radiographing
• Position and operate radiologic machines and take x-ray images
• Develop x-ray films and prepare solutions for processing
• Assist in fluoroscopic work and maintain equipment
• Monitor patients during procedures and use radiation protection devices
• Measure the thickness of the section to be radiographed and set controls on the machine
• Keep records and files and compile reports

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required include:

Knowledge of modern radiologic equipment and techniques, regional and gross anatomy, standardized radiologic clinical procedures, hazards of radiologic materials, operation and care of radiologic equipment, and ordering and storing of supplies

Ability to communicate effectively, administer emergency aid, prepare solutions, keep records, follow directions, analyze situations, establish working relationships

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Current valid certificate as a certified Radiologic Technologist in diagnostic radiologic technology issued by the Florida State Department of Health Services. Two years of experience under an accredited medical radiologist or successful completion of a two-year training program in radiologic technology approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association, in collaboration with the American College of Radiology.

Computer skills include knowledge of email systems, Word, Excel, WebMD, and Intergy systems.

Other abilities include working individually or as part of a team, working in a fast-paced environment, remaining calm under pressure, working overtime as required, and multitasking while maintaining attention to detail.

Physical/mental demands include being on your feet for long periods, lifting or turning disabled patients, sitting and standing in a normal office environment, concentrating for up to four hours, communicating verbally, and using a computer keyboard and monitor.

Working conditions include a normal busy office environment with much telephone work, occasional evening and/or weekend work.
