Job Description

Fellowship-trained Addiction Medicine Physician-Scientist to support the newly established Addiction Medicine Consult Service, providing inpatient and outpatient coverage alongside service-line administrative leadership. This position will build a translational research portfolio bridging acute addition settings, including emergency department and hospital-based care, with longitudinal addiction care management. The candidate will directly advance the departments addiction medicine research mission through development of externally funded research initiatives, collaborative clinical research, and dissemination of findings through scholarly activity.

Responsibilities

• RESEARCH-conduct mentored research as an NIH T32 trainee under the primary mentorship of Dr. Roland Merchant, focused on bridging acute and episodic addiction care settings (emergency department and inpatient) with longitudinal addiction care management. Develop and submit extramural grant applications, including NIH K-series, SAEM Foundation/EMF, foundation and federal funding opportunities. Author peer-reviewed manuscripts and present findings at national scientific meetings. Participate in IRB-approved research protocols, including study design, regulatory compliance, patient recruitment, data management, analysis, disseminations, and implementation of science activities. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across emergency medicine, addiction medicine, physiatry, and public health to advance innovative models of addiction care delivery and outcomes research.
• Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a State university.
• Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities.
• Responsible for academic advising and related activities.
• May represent the university, college/school, or department.

Qualifications

MINIMUM:

Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic, research, and service. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. For Associate/Full Professor- normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in the refereed and other professional journals, and be recognized authority in the field of specialization.

PREFERRED:

Must be board eligible/certified in Addiction Medicine.
