Director of National Accounting

JOB SUMMARYThe Director of National Accounting is responsible for leading and managing the accounting and shared service back-office functions of the firm. This position involves establishing and maintaining accounting standards, policies, and procedures, overseeing technical accounting research, and providing guidance to the accounting team. The Director of National Accounting plays a pivotal role in upholding the firm's reputation for quality and accuracy in financial reporting.JOB DESCRIPTIONTechnical Accounting Leadership:Stay current with evolving accounting standards and regulationsLead technical accounting research and interpret complex accounting issuesProvide guidance on accounting treatment for complex transactions and issuesAccounting Policy Development:Develop and maintain the firm's accounting policies and proceduresEnsure alignment of policies with regulatory requirements and industry best practicesMonitor changes in accounting standards and update policies as necessaryQuality Control and Compliance:Oversee quality control processes to ensure compliance with accounting standards and firm policiesReview financial statements and audit reports for compliance and accuracyAddress and resolve accounting and audit issues as they ariseTraining and Development:Provide training and technical support to teams and staffFoster a culture of continuous learning and professional developmentIndustry Insights:Stay informed about industry trends, changes in accounting standards, and emerging issuesProvide thought leadership and guidance to clients and colleaguesTeam Leadership:Lead a team of professionals within the National Accounting departmentSet department goals and objectives, and provide mentorship and guidance to team membersEmbraces AI and actively champions its adoption and implementationSupervisory responsibilitiesWill Supervise subordinate team membersWork environmentWork is conducted in a professional office environment with minimal distractionsPhysical demandsProlonged periods of sitting at a desk and performing work in front of a computer screen for long periods of timeMust be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a timeTravel requiredLimited travel may be requested for attending events, conferences, or internal meetingsRequired education and experienceBachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting or finance10+ years of relevant experience5+ of progressive experience in finance and accounting roles, with previous managerial experienceExtensive experience in accounting and auditing, preferably with a CPA firmStrong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)CPA, CFA or other relevant certificationPreferred education and experienceMaster’s degree in accounting, finance, or related fieldExperience in professional service environment, such as a CPA firm, financial consulting firm, or similar settingExperience working with Deltek Maconomy and WorkdayExperience within private equity-backed, high-growth organizations, including exposure to M&A activity and organizational expansion.Other dutiesPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the colleague for this job.
