Overview INDAI: Athletics (BA-ATHL-IUBLA) – IU Pfau Golf Course Indiana's flagship university now boasts an elite, championship golf course that not only rivals any layout in the state but is among the premiere public golf courses in the Midwest. The Pfau Course at Indiana University, opened in 2020, was built on the same 265‑acre east side Bloomington property previously occupied by the IU Championship Golf Course, the original Par‑3 course, and the IU Cross Country Course since the 1950s. Designed by highly acclaimed architect Steve Smyers and 2‑time major winner and Hoosier native Fuzzy Zoeller, the course offers a unique, world‑class layout set in the natural beauty of southern Indiana. Responsibilities Oversee turfgrass management, irrigation, chemical applications, and personnel management to ensure championship‑caliber playing conditions while prioritizing safety and regulatory compliance. Provide day‑to‑day operational management of grounds crew staff, establish short‑term operational objectives, and identify areas for improvement. Analyze, monitor, and evaluate performance of assigned staff, conduct performance reviews, and provide corrective action as needed. Ensure adequate staffing and effective scheduling; participate in employment decisions for assigned staff. Provide direct supervision and oversight of assigned staff and activities; impact, and be held accountable for, team performance. Ensure staff receive training to improve turf and grounds, and research and identify development opportunities for staff. Stay up‑to‑date on new industry turf and grounds standards, best practices, and emerging technology, and keep next‑level leaders informed of trends and significant problems. Physical Requirements This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate and handle equipment, remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders and stairs, move objects weighing up to 25 pounds, detect items in close proximity and at a distance, discern between colors, and have good depth perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation. Education Required Bachelor's degree in business, inventory management, controls, facilities management, or related field. Preferred Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Turf Management, or a related field. Work Experience Required 2 years in business, inventory management, controls, facilities management, or related field. Preferred 3 years of experience in turf management, including a proven track record of supervising a moderately sized support crew. Licenses and Certificates Required Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire. Skills Required Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner. Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities. Understanding of budgets and budgeting process. Knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. Ability to successfully complete required training programs. Preferred Substantial knowledge of turf maintenance procedures, irrigation/drainage design, and green/tee construction. Expertise in safe mixing, application, and recording of commercial chemicals and pesticides. Proficiency in operating specialized golf course machinery (tractors, mowers, sod cutters) and basic computer literacy. High‑level critical thinking and sharp mental effort.
