Job Title: Metal Coil Line Operator (Off-Shift)

Job Description

This role involves operating and supporting a metal coil processing line in a manufacturing environment. You will load and feed metal coils into the line using a hi-lo, monitor the trimming process to meet customer specifications, and inspect and tag finished coils accurately. The position is physically demanding, requires strong mechanical aptitude, and offers the opportunity to learn how to run the line independently using computer-based order systems.

Responsibilities

• Load metal coils onto the production line using a hi-lo in a safe and efficient manner.
• Feed metal coils into the line and ensure proper alignment and setup for production.
• Monitor the machine as it trims coils to customer specifications, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
• Remove trimmed coils from the line and handle them safely using appropriate equipment and techniques.
• Inspect finished coils for quality, verifying measurements such as gauge and material type.
• Tag and label coils accurately based on gauge, material, and customer requirements.
• Push, pull, and maneuver bins and large metal coils as part of daily production activities.
• Follow established manufacturing procedures and safety guidelines while working around heavy equipment and metal products.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area to support efficient and safe operations.
• Learn to pull up and interpret orders on the computer to run the line independently.
• Troubleshoot basic mechanical issues and communicate any equipment concerns to the appropriate personnel.
• Work independently with minimal supervision while meeting production and quality standards.
• Support off-shift production needs, including overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.

Essential Skills

• At least 3 recent years of machine operation experience that includes setup, or a experience in welding and fabrication, or a mechanical experience.
• Experience working in a manufacturing environment with metal products or similar materials.
• Ability to safely operate a hi-lo (forklift) to load and unload metal coils and related materials.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with production machinery.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work, including frequent pushing and pulling of bins and handling large metal coils.
• Willingness and ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned tasks.
• Flexibility to work off-shift and be available for overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Ability to achieve a score of at least 70% on the Bennett Mechanical test.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn how to pull and interpret orders to run the line.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience operating coil processing lines or similar metal processing equipment.
• Experience in welding, fabrication, or mechanical repair in an industrial setting.
• Comfort working in a loud, fast-paced manufacturing environment with frequent hi-lo traffic.
• Strong attention to detail for accurate tagging, labeling, and inspection of metal coils.
• Good attendance record and reliability, supporting eligibility for performance-based raises.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to safety procedures.

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing facility that produces and processes metal products. The environment is loud and active, with frequent hi-lo (forklift) traffic and ongoing production on multiple lines. You will work closely with heavy metal coils, bins, and mechanical equipment, requiring strict adherence to safety procedures and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment. The role is physically intensive and involves standing, pushing, pulling, and maneuvering materials throughout the shift. Work is performed on an off-shift schedule, with the expectation of flexibility for overtime, weekends, and holidays to meet production demands.

This is a Permanent position based out of Holly, MI.

The pay range for this position is $40560.00 - $40560.00/yr.
