Director of Activities

To supervise, coordinate and direct the activity program of the school. To supply the leadershipnecessary for developing the best possible activity program for students and providing studentswith worthwhile learning experiences.

JOB FUNCTIONS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Administers, enforces and interprets all activity regulations as specified by the Wyoming HighSchool Activity Association (WHSAA), CCSD policies, regulations and procedures, and the 4AConferences' By-Laws in which membership is maintained. Handles and disseminates all relevant WHSAA reports, information, and communicationpertaining to the district activity program. Holds meetings with coaches and sponsors whenever necessary; keeps them informed of allmatters pertaining to the school activities program. Acts as a consultant to school administration, sponsors, and coaches on matters pertaining toactivities program. Oversees the creation of the school's master activities schedule. Schedules building facility needs for practice use and interscholastic activity events. Assumes responsibility for contest management at all home interscholastic activitycompetitions. Meets with parents, students, and coaches to discuss any problems and find workable solutions. Works to achieve favorable publicity for all activity programs. Works to coordinate the efforts of the parent booster club with the activity program. Acts as director for all regional events that are assigned to the school. Assigns Event Coordinator to supervise the contest management at activities in which theDirector of Activities is absent. Approves assigned away activities contracts and contracts home contests and officials. Supervises the coordination of school interscholastic transportation, lodging and meals. Observes and evaluates coaches/sponsors sufficiently in practices and contests to make futurerecommendations in terms of job expectations and job assignments. Represents the school and the District in all activity business at conference, district and statemeetings. Maintains a record of athletic and activities reports such as end of season rosters, individualand team achievements, records, etc. Monitors the evaluation process of the activity staff and programs. Recommends coaches and sponsors for rehire to the CCSD Board of Trustees. Oversees the interview and selection process for new activity staff positions. Supervises and coordinates the school Activities budget. Sees that inventories and budgets are properly and promptly prepared by thecoaches/sponsors. Makes recommendations for improvement, repair and/or maintenance of activity facilities.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

Maintains high visibility for all activity staff members and students. Makes all necessary arrangements for all non-school facilities needed in the activitiesprogram. Releases publicity to the press and radio on coming events in athletics and on all specialactivities in which the school participates. Sends reminders of upcoming activity events to other schools, officials, judges, eventworkers, etc. Coordinates medical and law enforcement coverage at various competitions, includingambulance services for all home varsity football games. Determines scholastic eligibility of all participants in activities and certifies theireligibility on proper state forms. Coordinates the set-up of athletic facilities for all home interscholastic athletic contests. Works with the Athletic Trainer to establish procedures for the management and safeoperation of the training room. Develops a reasonable and equitable program for the utilization of the concession stands. Coordinates all radio and public television broadcasts, as well as the public addresssystem operation at various games. Cancels or postpones scheduled contests, officials and transportation because of weather or other hazardous conditions. Notifies all parties involved - visiting school, custodians,media, event workers, etc. Ensures officials are properly paid. Reviews the CCSD Activity Code and the CCSD Coach/Sponsor Handbook annually. Holds all coaches and participants accountable to the CCSD Activity Code. Collects and files final season reports on programs, participation, letter winners andoutstanding award recipients. Maintains a file of all Activity Code violations, suspensions from contests, andfulfillments of contract. Reviews coaches/sponsors' requests to attend specialized clinics in their activity area. Works collaboratively with the other building Activities Directors to develop the bestCampbell County School District Activities Program possible. Supervises assigned personnel. Ability to understand the psychological and physiological development of adolescents. Must be able to walk, write, lift and sit. Must be able to concentrate with numerous interruptions. Must be persuasive, alert and creative. Must have patience, initiative and reasoning. Knowledge of and implementation of the district supervision and evaluation model. Ability to manage and motivate people. Ability to oversee, manage and maintain activity facilities and equipment. Knowledge of each activity's skills progression, structure of productive practices, andcompetition strategies. Working knowledge of activity competitions and tournament management. EDUCATION, LICENSE, CERTIFICATION OR FORMAL TRAINING Master's Degree in Administration. Teaching, coaching, and administrative experience. Proper certification issued by the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board as anAdministrator or Director is required. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate and acceptable.
