Registered Nurse, Cardiovascular Stepdown, Night Shift - VUH

Job Summary Applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team. Collaborates in establishing patient goals and evaluates progress to ensure effective outcomes. Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to the Board of Nursing standards. Shift and Schedule Night shift (7 p.m. – 7 a.m.) with a minimum of 4 weekend shifts per 6‑week schedule and 2 on‑call shifts. Unit Overview Fast‑paced Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit caring for a diverse cardiac patient population in a collaborative, team‑oriented environment. Patient Population Includes Cardiac Stepdown Patients Cardiovascular & Telemetry Patients Heart Failure Arrhythmias Pre‑ and Post‑Cardiac Procedures Complex Medical & Progressive Care Patients Peritoneal Dialysis Patients Career Growth Opportunities Professional Growth Opportunities: Expand experience within cardiovascular nursing while building a strong foundation for future advancement. Skill Expansion: Strengthen competencies in cardiac assessment, telemetry interpretation, patient prioritization, critical thinking, and progressive care nursing. Dynamic & Diverse Patient Population: Gain exposure to a wide range of cardiovascular and complex medical patient populations in a high‑acuity stepdown setting. Key Responsibilities Collaborate in establishing the plan of care, coordinate and implement care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum. Analyze comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis. Continuously utilize the nursing process to evaluate patient's progress toward goals and apply appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes. Employ strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment. Additional duties may be assigned. Technical Capabilities Care Planning (Novice): Demonstrate ability to anticipate resource needs, identify distinct tasks, set priorities, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work within areas of direct responsibility. Nursing Patient Education (Novice): Provide patient education in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Nursing Patient Assessment & Evaluation (Novice): Assess and evaluate patients, conduct primary care patient interviews and physical examinations, recognize problems, and contact primary care provider and other team members as needed. Evidence‑Based Practice (Novice): Search for evidence to answer clinical questions and accomplish assignments under direction of others.
