Phlebotomist - Patient Service Centers (Full-Time, Days)

Job Title: PhlebotomistDepartment: Phlebotomy ServicesLocation: Rochester Regional - Patient Service CentersHours Per Week: 40Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8-hour, variable shifts between 6:00a and 5:00p, every third weekend rotation requiredSUMMARY:To obtain by venous or capillary puncture sufficient quantity of blood to enable the laboratory to perform accurate analysis as requested by physician. Act as laboratory liaison for direct patient contact, nursing personnel and house staff. The Phlebotomist must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.RESPONSIBILITIES:Collects blood specimens via venipuncture and skin puncture according to physician orders applicable to regulations, policies and procedures to ensure complete and accurate specimens for testing.Ensures the patient is provided the necessary information and is comfortable and safe.Identifies patient, communicates the procedures to be done and performs assigned phlebotomy duties.Adheres to established safety guidelines inclusive of the use of appropriate equipment and practices.Obtains the required specimens, labels and transports specimens to specified area.Prepares specimens for processing and completes paperwork associated with the test ordered.Manages incoming calls while providing necessary information.Greeting patients and/or their representatives and providing direction as needed.Scheduling or pre-scheduling patient appointments, if applicable.Interviewing the patient and/or their representative for necessary information and completing the registration process as defined by policy.Verification of insurance eligibility/coverage and obtaining necessary authorizations when applicable.Ensures the accuracy of all data collected while meeting the regulatory requirements as outlined by department policy.Exhibits effective communications skills when dealing with patients, physicians, hospital personnel.Flexibility and transportation to multiple Patient Service Centers or other affiliated centers required.Demonstrates commitment to the RGHS Standards of Behavior consistently-STARS-Service, Teamwork, Attitude, Respect and StandardsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:PBT (ASCP) certificationEDUCATION:LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20–50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation.
