At Shelter, we do not require a previous background in the insurance industry. While experience is a plus, many of our new agents have no prior insurance work; backgrounds range from real estate and retail sales to education and coaching. What is required: a motivated attitude, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a strong ability to communicate effectively with clients in a sales environment. While some sales experience and a degree with general business courses are helpful, our mix of in‑house and virtual new agent training schools, along with continuing industry education, helps you build the foundation to launch your agency. We do not require you to have capital or assets to be considered. We do not sell agencies or loan money. The only expectations are meeting sales requirements and core business proficiencies. If you are no longer a Shelter agent, your financial responsibilities are limited to any unsatisfied bills owed at departure. Responsibilities Develop prospects and sell Shelter products in your agency. May have the opportunity to bring on staff to perform general administrative duties and improve sales.
