High School Math Teacher Direct Supervisor: Principal, or designee. Position Summary The primary responsibilities are to provide support in the instructional process by serving as a facilitator of learning, developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, professional staff, and administrators in addressing classroom and school issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from parents or guardians regarding academic and social‑emotional issues. The ideal candidate has experience with the workshop model and project‑based learning. The teacher must be a hardworking, goal‑oriented, and enthusiastic professional with excellent subject knowledge and a sound understanding of the Missouri Learning Standards and Common Core Standards. The teacher is motivated, encourages and inspires students to love learning and excel both academically and socially, and collaborates with staff to co‑plan, co‑deliver, and individualize instruction for all students in a class. Position Responsibilities Establish weekly objectives that align to the Common Core Standards and Missouri Learning Standards. Facilitate hands‑on activities and projects that allow students to learn by doing and exploring. Maintain a clean and organized classroom. Use discipline models of BIST and Restorative Justice to maintain a positive, encouraging learning environment. Implement instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences. Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs. Assist in assessing changing curricular needs and offer plans for improvement. Maintain effective and efficient record‑keeping procedures. Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis. Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment. Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community. Assume responsibility for meeting his/her course and school‑wide student performance goals. Demonstrate gains in student performance. Participate in meetings, training and professional development. Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, and coordinating activities. Act in a professional and ethical manner at all times and comply with school policies, procedures, and expectations. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor. All work responsibilities are subject to having performance goals and/or targets established as part of the annual performance planning process. Skills and Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Education. Valid Missouri teaching certificate. Desire to continue professional development. Excellent organization skills and an ability to coordinate multiple tasks and activities. Demonstrated success in urban education. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and an ability to keep multiple stakeholder groups, including parents, teachers, staff, volunteers, and partners, informed of critical issues, activities, and schedules. Excellent work ethic, positive attitude, flexibility and willingness to perform tasks assigned. Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and teachers in the school environment and community. Must pass an extensive background check. Physical Demands This position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and fingers, bend, stoop, and lift objects of at least ten pounds. The job may occasionally require stooping, kneeling, and crouching. Visual ability requires monocular and color vision, close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee may have to intervene in student fights or when students are escalated using MANDT training. Communication Provides health services, information, and counseling in an effective and positive manner to enhance the health and wellness of the school community. Completes accident/incident reports for students and staff. Compiles data for statistical purposes. Maintains confidentiality regarding educational records. Organization Must be able to organize and prioritize work in a manner understandable to the leadership team; maintains a daily log of school/staff visits and documentation. Maintains the daily environment of the health office facility and supplies. Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties. Performs other related work as required. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; ability to write reports, general curriculum and learning theories, correspondence, and protocols; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public. Work Environment The work environment is typically loud and acceptable for this setting. The employee is directly responsible for students’ and staff safety, work output, and well‑being. Other Skills and Abilities Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and community; ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication.
