The Import Compliance Specialist supports global trade operations by ensuring compliance with import and export regulations, analyzing trade data, and optimizing international shipping processes. This role partners closely with logistics, compliance, finance, and external service providers to enable efficient, compliant cross-border trade.What you will be doing:Prepare, review, and maintain import/export documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin, etc.)Ensure compliance with U.S. Customs, CBP, FDA, USDA, and international trade regulationsClassify products using appropriate HS/HTS and Schedule B codesMonitor and apply free trade agreements (FTA)Coordinate international shipments with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and carriersTrack shipments and proactively resolve delays, discrepancies, or customs holdsEnsure shipping transactions are accurately and timely processed to guarantee customer satisfactionEstablish, monitor, and report on key import/export and logistics performance metrics, including shipment volume, on-time delivery, transportation costs, tariffs, and dutiesAnalyze trade data to identify trends, compliance risks, service gaps, and cost-saving opportunitiesSupport continuous improvement initiatives by documenting processes, identifying inefficiencies, and recommending enhancements to systems, controls, and workflowsAssist in the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to trade compliance and logistics operationsEvolve and maintain department policies and systems in alignment with the company's goals and objectivesIdentify trends, delays, and service issues and report to manager for carrier feedback and corrective actionAct as a primary liaison between internal teams and external partners, including carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, 3PL providers, billing service providers, and government agenciesProvide regular reporting and actionable insights to management to support carrier performance reviews and corrective actionsHands-on interaction and problem-solving activities with Carriers, 3rd Party Logistics Providers, Billing Service Providers, Customs and Border Protection and other government and/or regulatory agenciesAssist in preparation of Hazardous Goods ShipmentsFile Claims and cases for lost and damaged shipmentWork with order management groups in adapting orders to allow them to flow correctly through the systemMaintain accurate import/export records in accordance with regulatory retention requirementsMaintain detailed and auditable records of trade transactions in accordance with internal policies and regulatory recordkeeping requirementsMust have for this role:Associate's degree in supply chain, international business, logistics or a related fieldKnowledge of DOT regulations, Schedule B procedures, HTS, Incoterms, Dangerous goods IATA/ICAO, and the preparation of international shipping documentations (invoice, packing list, SED,) requiredProficient PC skills; Strong communication skills, both verbal and writtenWorking knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems related to supply chain functionsKnowledge and expertise in domestic and international transportation, warehousing, and reverse logisticsDemonstrated experience and familiarity with best practices in leading teams supporting transportation, warehousing, packaging and shippingMust be ITAR authorizedAbility to organize and manage multiple prioritiesAbility to manage through change and to lead change when appropriateAbility to work well with othersNice to have:Experience with TMS or similar trade management systemsCertification in customs compliance (e.g., CUSECO)Knowledge of Incoterms and international shipping documentationExperience with ACE System and ReportingExperience with global freight forwarding and customs brokerageAdvanced knowledge using Excel and other software for analyticsExperience with Duty Drawback filing
