A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in facilities maintenance, construction, building operations, or a closely related field is required, along with at least three (3) years of supervisory or management experience leading maintenance or facilities personnel. Experience working in a public school district or other large institutional environment is preferred. A valid South Carolina driver's license is required. REPORTS TO: Chief of Operations GENERAL SUMMARY: The Director of Maintenance provides hands‑on leadership of the District's maintenance operations to ensure district facilities, grounds, building systems, and equipment are safe, functional, reliable, and well‑maintained in support of teaching and learning. The Director leads the daily operations of the Maintenance Department through visible leadership, sound decision‑making, responsible stewardship of district resources, and a commitment to professionalism, accountability, customer service, and continuous improvement. Manage district resources responsibly while promoting safe and efficient operations. Foster a culture of professionalism, teamwork, and continuous improvement. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Lead the daily operations of the Maintenance Department to ensure district facilities are safe, functional, and well‑maintained. 2. Maintain a regular presence in district schools and facilities to assess building conditions, identify maintenance needs, evaluate completed work, and build strong working relationships with school administrators. 3. Prioritize, assign, and monitor maintenance work to ensure timely completion and quality workmanship 4. Recruit, hire, supervise, develop, and evaluate maintenance personnel. 5. Provide leadership and direction to the Assistant Director, Administrative Assistant, and maintenance staff. 6. Develop and oversee preventive maintenance programs for district facilities, grounds, building systems, maintenance vehicles, and equipment. 7. Identify facility deficiencies and develop repair and replacement plans. 8. Develop and manage the department’s inventory and equipment. 9. Coordinate maintenance‑related construction projects with architects, engineers, contractors, and vendors as directed by the Chief of Operations. 10. Ensure compliance with applicable codes, safety standards, environmental regulations, and district policies 11. Develop and oversee departmental safety programs and employee training. 12. Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspections, inventories, and other required documentation. 13. Serve as the District's liaison with contractors, vendors, utility providers, and regulatory agencies. 14. Lead the department's response to facility emergencies and other operational issues. 15. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Operations. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed both indoors and outdoors with occasional exposure to discomforting environmental conditions such as heat, cold, humidity, noise, electrical hazards, dust and wetness. Moderately heavy physical exertion is frequently required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 150 pounds.
