Engineering Field Technician

 

We are looking for a Field Engineer / Field Service Technician to install, commission and support our automation systems at customer facilities. This is a hands-on role involving robotics, machine vision, PLCs and industrial automation, with regular on site customer support required.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure and commission systems at customer sites, including robots, vision systems, sensors and PLC interfaces.
• Program and troubleshoot industrial robots, vision systems and automation equipment.
• Provide remote and on-site technical support to customers and partners.
• Test, troubleshoot and optimize new and existing systems.
• Support system demonstrations, trials and customer acceptance testing.
• Prepare service reports, technical documentation and customer training materials.
• Coordinate project and commissioning activities with customers and engineering team.
• Provide feedback from field installations to support continuous product and system improvement.

• Programming

• Write and test PLC logic in Studio 5000 / RSLogix and Siemens TIA Portal: sequencing, interlocks, PID and analog control, alarming, lead/lag and motion.
• Build HMI and SCADA screens in FactoryTalk View, FactoryTalk Optix and Pro-face GP-Pro EX, including trending, datalogging and recipe handling.
• Configure and tune VFDs and servos (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Invertek, SEW-Eurodrive, Schneider and others) over hardwired and networked control.
• Integrate devices over EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP/RTU and serial; set up managed switches and distributed I/O.
• Write reusable code: AOIs, UDTs, function blocks and project templates.

Migrations and retrofits

• Convert legacy platforms (PLC-5, SLC 500, MicroLogix, S5/S7-300, PanelView) to current hardware with minimal downtime.
• Plan cutovers around a customer's production schedule, including weekend and shutdown work.

Startup and field service

• Run FAT in the panel shop and SAT on site; verify every I/O point, sequence and alarm against the narrative.
• Commission systems and stay through the first production runs.
• Troubleshoot logic, networks, drives, instrumentation and field wiring with a meter in one hand and a laptop in the other.
• Handle field service calls: diagnose and repair control faults, replace failed hardware, and restore production on equipment you may be seeing for the first time.
• Take part in breakdown call-out support, including off-hours and weekends: triage remotely when you can, travel to site when you can't, and follow up with a root-cause write-up and a fix so it doesn't happen again.

Perform preventive maintenance visits: program backups, firmware and drive checks, and spares recommendations

Skills and Experience

• College diploma or university degree in mechatronics, electrical, mechanical or computer engineering, automation technology, or a related field.
• 2+ years of experience in industrial automation, field service or system integration.
• Experience with PLCs, industrial sensors and/or machine-vision systems.
• Strong hands-on troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Good technical documentation skills and attention to detail.
• Valid driver’s license and passport.
• Ability and willingness to travel (Car/Truck allowance provided) to local customer sites (PA/Ohio/WV)
• Legally entitled to work in USA.
