Quality Control Technician

The Quality Control Technician tests and inspects concrete, aggregates, and asphalt products before and during manufacturing at the production plants, as well as at job sites using a variety of testing equipment and procedures to maintain and ensure products conform to required specifications. This is a skilled position involving responsibility for the safe sampling and testing of materials. Responsibilities include the proper collection of materials to be tested, proper and accurate analysis of the materials, and accurate reporting and documentation of results. Driving a company vehicle will be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Safely and efficiently collect samples for testing aggregates, concrete, and asphalt materials.
  • Perform sampling, testing, and reporting procedures according to established protocol, having the ability to test material samples and recording test results in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Perform calculations, provide documentation, and communicate data.
  • Maintain a daily record of test results, prepare daily reports, and submit results to project lead technician or main lab supervisor. Advise supervisor of unusual test results or results that do not meet specifications.
  • Ensure work performed meets department standards, participate in continuous improvement system, observe and promote best practices, good time management, and be able to troubleshoot/analyze root cause failure.
  • Properly follow all company policies and regulations for safe working procedures and environmental best practices.
  • Verify outside construction materials testing laboratory results and maintain accurate, timely records of test data, product quality, and defective materials.
  • Learn to use Lastrada as the main software for the lab on the aggregate/asphalt division.

Experience and abilities you will need:

Mandatory:

  • Familiarity with industry standards and specifications as well as knowledge of both ready-mix and asphalt manufacturing design, processes, and equipment.
  • State DOT and ACI certifications.
  • Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
  • Must have a minimum of Leve I ACI certification for Concrete, Aggregate, and Strength Testing.

Desirable:

  • Associate degree preferred
  • Minimum of Level I DOT certification with Level II preferred.

Experience:

  • Three (3) years of laboratory testing experience in ready-mix concrete and construction aggregate properties.
  • Asphalt testing experience.

Skills:

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with personal computer and software packages.
