SummaryInvolves developing, implementing, and monitoring Health and Safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local health, and safety regulations, and to ensure a safe and sustainable workplace.Serves as the Subject Matter Expert for all Safety programs including but not limited to: Hazardous Energy Control, Confined Enclosed Spaces, Fall Protection, Slip Trip & Fall Protection, Machine Guarding, Power Industrial Trucks, Walking Working Surfaces, Scaffolding, Work Platforms, Excavation Trenching and Shoring, Hot Work, Fall Protection, etc. Develops and implements health and safety policies and procedures. Conducts risk assessments and coordinates with state agency & insurer inspections. Manages the Occupational Health and Safety Program. Investigates accidents and incidents. Provides training and guidance on health and safety issues. Monitors compliance with health and safety legislation. Promotes health and safety in the workplace. #LI-CJ1ResponsibilitiesApply knowledge of applicable health & safety regulations, standards, guidelines, etc. and their applicability to NYPA’s goalsReview and interpret polices & procedures, regulations, standards & guidelines for dissemination to appropriate corporate and site personnelProvide interpretation and guidance of third-party submittals (i.e., review documents/specifications (HASPs) submitted by other departments for planned &/or ongoing work)Visit all NYPA locations to assist in maintaining complianceDevelop strategies for achieving/maintaining compliance with applicable regulations, statutes, and standardsKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesThorough understanding of OSHA/PESH Injury & Illness Recordkeeping and Reporting requirementsKnowledge of, and experience with, workplace hazards (utility-specific hazards) as related to employee health and safetyAbility to work on multiple projects/efforts concurrently is essentialCapability to develop and present business case(s) for program initiativesStrong planning skills, and ability to develop and implement work plans that meet corporate and site goals, achieve objectives on scheduleEducation, Experience and CertificationsBachelor’s degree required 7 or more years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experienceMaintain certifications and proficiencies necessary Strong knowledge of OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration), DOSH (Department of Occupational Safety & Health), NFPA (National Fire Protection Association)Certifications and licensures needed to meet Energy industry, federal, state, or local regulations such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or ASP (Associate Safety Professional) preferredPhysical RequirementsUp to 40% travel primarily within NY StatePhysical ability to access Authority facilities is necessary on a routine basisAbility to enter confined spaces and areas with limited accessAbility to work from height and travel distances as well as stairs by footAbility to stand long periods of time in all types of weather; exposure to heat, cold, noise, wind and general nuisance air conditionsValid Drivers license Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spacesMust be able to see and respond to dangerous situationsMust be able to wear personal protective gear and respiratorThe New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The estimated salary range for this position is: $130,000-$178,200.
