Job Description

The Food Services Worker supports daily food operations by assisting with food preparation, food service, and sanitation in a healthcare cafeteria setting. This role ensures that meals are prepared and served safely, at the proper temperature, and in a clean, well-organized environment while delivering excellent customer service to patients, visitors, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation of food using proper food handling and food safety techniques.

• Serve food and beverages while ensuring items are held and served at the correct temperatures.

• Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary work area in accordance with food safety standards.

• Take out trash regularly to maintain cleanliness and safety in food service areas.

• Ensure the availability of clean dishes, utensils, and glassware by supporting dishwashing activities.

• Deliver food to designated areas in a timely, courteous, and accurate manner.

• Restock food, supplies, and service items to ensure stations remain fully supplied during service.

• Clean kitchen and cafeteria appliances and equipment as directed.

• Sweep and mop floors to maintain a clean and safe environment.

• Document and record temperature readings for food, equipment, and storage as required.

• Provide friendly and responsive customer service to patients, visitors, and staff.

• Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures in a healthcare environment.

Essential Skills

• At least 6 months of food service experience in a healthcare, cafeteria, restaurant, or fast-food setting.

• Knowledge of proper food handling and food safety techniques.

• Ability to ensure food is prepared and served at the proper temperature.

• Basic food preparation skills in a high-volume or institutional setting.

• Experience with cleaning and sanitation tasks in a foodservice environment.

• Ability to support dishwashing, including handling dishes, utensils, and glassware safely.

• Strong customer service skills with a focus on courtesy and responsiveness.

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and complete required documentation, including temperature logs.

• Reliability to work scheduled shifts, including every other weekend.

• Ability to perform physical tasks such as standing for extended periods, lifting, bending, sweeping, and mopping.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous cook experience is a plus.

• Experience in housekeeping, hospitality, or related service roles is beneficial.

• Experience working in a rehab hospital, healthcare facility, or institutional cafeteria is an advantage.

• Ability to work collaboratively with kitchen, dietary, and clinical staff.

• Attention to detail in maintaining cleanliness, organization, and food safety standards.

• Strong time management skills to balance food prep, service, cleaning, and restocking duties.

Work Environment

This role is based in a rehab hospital cafeteria that is clean, new, and well-organized. The typical schedule is 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., with work required every other weekend. The environment involves working around commercial kitchen equipment, foodservice lines, and cleaning supplies, with a strong emphasis on sanitation and safety. Personal protective items such as gloves and hair nets are required while working with food. Tennis shoes and plain work pants are expected as standard attire. The role requires frequent standing, walking, and performing cleaning tasks such as sweeping and mopping in a fast-paced healthcare foodservice setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Milwaukee, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
